- Father: Ealdred of BAMBURGH

- Birth: BEF 1018, Northumbria, England
- Also known as: Aelfleda
- NoCoupleRelationships: (Date and Place unknown)
- NoChildren: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Elflaed (Aelfleda) daughter of Ealdred, Earl of Northumbria and his wife. Born in the early 11th century, most likely the oldest child of her parents. Died young, probably before 1018. Had 2 younger sisters of the same name, born after her death. No information is known about her. Simeon of Durham identifies 5 daughters of Ealdred and tells us there were 3 who were named "Aelfleda". There is no other record of 2 of the "Aelfledas". This leads to the conclusion that they died young. It is not uncommon to see the same name used multiple times in families of this time period. If a child died young, often the next child born of the same sex was given the same name. Presumable this Aelfleda was one of the first born children. After her death, a newborn sister was given the same name. Sadly that second child of the same name died young as well. The third Aelfleda finally lived to adulthood. ------------------ "Earl Aldred was the father of five daughters, three of whom bore the same name, Aelfleda ; the fourth was called Aldgitha, and the fifth Etheldritha. One of these Aelfledas married earl Siward, by whom she became the mother of Waltheof ; ....." https://archive.org/details/historicalworks00simegoog/page/n361/mode/1up

- Birth: ABT 642, Kingdom of Kent, Anglo Saxon England
- Also known as: Irminburg
- LifeSketch: Foundation for Medieval Genealogy EORMENBEORG. The Vitæ…Virginis Mildrethæ, written by Goscelin (mid- to late-11th century), names "Domneva (Eafa), Eormenburga (Ermeneburga) and Ermengitha" as the four daughters of Eormenred and his wife, adding that "Domneva" was mother of three daughters "Milburga, Mildretha and Milgitha"[312]. There appears to be confusion between the two daughters named Domneva and Eormenbeorg, as William of Malmesbury states that Merewald, son of Penda, married "Ermenburga daughter of Ermenred, brother of…Ercombert"[313]. In addition, Florence of Worcester’s genealogies name "sanctam…Eormenbeorgam…regina Merewaldi regis West-Anglorum, sanctam Eormenburgam, sanctam Ætheldrytham, sanctam Eormengytham" as the four daughters of "Eormenredus" and "regina sua Oslava"[314]. The Passio Beatorum Martyrum Ethelredi et Ethelbricti, probably written by Goscelin (mid-11th century), records that, after the murder of Æthelred and Æthelberht sons of Eormenred, Ecgberht King of Kent sent for "their sister Domneva" to pay her compensation and that she built a church on the land granted where daughter Mildreth was a nun[315]. m MEREWALH, ruler of the Magonsætan[316], son of PENDA King of Mercia & his wife Cynewise ---[317]. EREMENEBERG . The Vitæ…Virginis Mildrethæ, written by Goscelin (mid- to late-11th century), names "Domneva, Eormenburga, Ermeneburga and Ermengitha" as the four daughters of Eormenred and his wife[318]. Florence of Worcester’s genealogies name "sanctam…Eormenbeorgam…regina Merewaldi regis West-Anglorum, sanctam Eormenburgam, sanctam Ætheldrytham, sanctam Eormengytham" as the four daughters of "Eormenredus" and "regina sua Oslava"[319]. (Kings of Northumbria)... Ecgfrith..m secondly ([before 677]) EORMENBURH, sister of the wife of CENTWINE King of Wessex, daughter of ---. The Vita Wilfridi names "regis Ecgfridi regina nomine Irmenburg", stating that her body was not corrupted after she died, and in a later passage names her "regem Westsexona…Centwini…regina soror Irminburge regina"[964]. According to William of Malmesbury, King Ecgfrith's wife (whom he does not name) was an enemy of Wilfrid and encouraged her husband to deprive him of his bishopric[965], presumably because she understood the influence which he had held over his first wife.

- Father: Egbert I KING OF KENT
- Birth: ABT 660, Kingdom of Kent, Anglia
- Also known as: Hermelinda Queen of the Lombards
- LifeSketch: Medlands Project [EORMENHILD]. Paulus Diaconus names "Hermelindam ex Saxonum Anglorum genere" as wife of Cunincpert King of the Lombards in Italy[356]. There is no proof that she belonged to the royal family of Kent. However, Kirby suggests that "Hermelinda" is a "Kentish-type name (Eormenhild?)"[357]. If she belonged to the royal house of Kent, it is most likely from a chronological point of view that she was the daughter of King Ecgberht, given her husband's birth estimated in [660]. The connection between the Lombard kings and Kent is first mentioned when the exiled King Perctarit, father of Cunincpert, is reported to have been preparing to move to Kent when he learned that the usurper King Grimoald had died (which is dated to 671)[358]. m CUNINCPERT associate King of the Lombards, son of PERCTARIT King of the Lombards & his wife Rodelinda --- ([660]-700). He succeeded his father in 686 as CUNINCPERT King of the Lombards at Pavia.]

- Birth: 298, Oium, Scythia, Roman Empire
- Also known as: Ermanarich of Amali
- Also known as: Ermanaric, Ermanaricus, Eormanrīc, Hermanrich, Hermanaricus
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Ostrogoths
- Tribe Name: Greuthingi
- Clan Name: House of Amals
- LifeSketch: Ermanaric King of the Goths Reign circa 296-376 Successor Vithimiris Born circa 291 Died 376 House Amali dynasty Ermanaric (Gothic: *Aírmanareiks; Latin: Ermanaricus or Hermanaricus; Old English: Eormanrīc [ˈeorˠmɑnriːtʃ]; Old Norse: Jörmunrekr [ˈjɔrmunrekr], Middle High German: Ermenrîch; died 376) was a Greuthungian Gothic King who before the Hunnic invasion evidently ruled a sizable portion of Oium, the part of Scythia inhabited by the Goths at the time. He is mentioned in two Roman sources; the contemporary writings of Ammianus Marcellinus and in Getica by the 6th-century historian Jordanes. Modern historians disagree on the size of Ermanaric's realm. Herwig Wolfram postulates that he at one point ruled a realm stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea as far eastwards as the Ural Mountains.[1] Peter Heather is skeptical of the claim that Ermanaric ruled all Goths except the Tervingi, and furthermore points to the fact that such an enormous empire would have been larger than any known Gothic political unit, that it would have left bigger traces in the sources and that the sources on which the claim is based are not nearly reliable enough to be taken at face value.[2] Etymology The first element of the name Ermanaric appears to be based on the Proto-Germanic root *ermena-, meaning 'universal'.[3] The second element is from the element *-rīks, Gothic reiks, meaning 'ruler'; this is found frequently in Gothic royal names.[4] In Roman sources According to Ammianus, Ermanaric was "a most warlike king" who eventually committed suicide, faced with the aggression of the Alani and of the Huns, who invaded his territories in the 370s. Ammianus says he "ruled over extensively wide and fertile regions".[5][6] Ammianus also says that after Ermanaric's death, a certain Vithimiris was elected as the new king. According to Jordanes' Getica, Ermanaric ruled the realm of Oium. He describes him as a "Gothic Alexander" who "ruled all the nations of Scythia and Germania as they were his own". Jordanes also states that the king put to death a young woman named Sunilda (Svanhildr) with the use of horses, because of her infidelity. Thereupon her two brothers, Sarus and Ammius, severely wounded Ermanaric leaving him unfit to defend his kingdom from Hunnic incursions. Variations of this legend had a profound effect on medieval Germanic literature, including that of England and Scandinavia (see Jonakr's sons). Jordanes claims that he successfully ruled the Goths until his death at the age of 110. Gibbon gives the version of Ammianus and Jordanes as historical, reporting that Ermanaric successively conquered, during a reign of about 30 years from 337 to 367 A.D., the west-goths, the Heruli, the Venedi and the Aestii, establishing a kingdom which ranged from the Baltic to the Black Sea;[7] and died at the age of 110 of a wound inflicted by the brothers of a woman whom he had cruelly executed for her husband's revolt, being succeeded by his brother Vithimiris.[8] In Germanic sources and legends Iormunrek (Jörmunrekkr) is the Norse form of the name.[9] Ermanaric appears in Anglo-Saxon and Scandinavian legend. In the former, the poem Beowulf focused on the image of "Eormenric's wiles and hatred".[10] According to Tolkien, he is described in the 10th century poem Deor as a powerful but perilous king: "We have heard of the wolfish mind of Eormanric: far and wide he ruled the people of the realm of the Goths: he was a cruel king".[9] Ermanaric also appears in the Norse sources, such as Thidreks Saga, in which he is ill-advised by his counsellors to put his own wife to death for supposed adultery with his son, for which revenge is taken by his brothers-in-law.[11][12] Main article: Svanhildr The death of Swanhild (Svanhildr Sigurðardóttir) and Ermanaric's (Jörmunrek) subsequent death at the hands of Jonakr's sons occupies an important place in the world of Germanic legend. The tale is retold in many northern European stories, including the Icelandic Poetic Edda (Hamðismál and Guðrúnarhvöt), Prose Edda and the Volsunga Saga; the Norwegian Ragnarsdrápa; the Danish Gesta Danorum; and the German Nibelungenlied[13] and Annals of Quedlinburg. In the Norse Thidreks Saga, Ermanaric is ill-advised by his treacherous counsellor Bicke, Bikka, Sifka, or Seveke (who wants revenge for the rape of his wife by Ermanaric),[14] with the result that the king puts his own wife to death for supposed adultery with his son;[11] he is thereafter crippled by his brothers-in-law in revenge.[12] In the Middle High German poems Dietrichs Flucht, the Rabenschlacht, and Alpharts Tod about Dietrich of Bern, Ermanaric is Dietrich's uncle who has driven his nephew into exile.[15] The early modern Low German poem Ermenrichs Tod recounts a garbled version of Ermanaric's death reminiscent of the scene told in Jordanes and Scandinavian legend.[16] Name Ermanaric's Gothic name is reconstructed as *Airmanareiks. It is recorded in the various Latinized forms: in Jordanes' Getica, he is called Ermanaricus or Hermanaricus, but some of the manuscripts even have Armanaricus, Hermericus, Hermanericus etc. in Ammianus' Res gestae, he is Ermenrichus (his name occurs only once). In medieval Germanic epics, the name appears as: Old English Eormenric in Beowulf; the alternative spelling Eormanric occurs in the poems Deor and Widsith, Old Norse Jọrmunrekr or Ermenrekur; Old Swedish Ermenrik or Ermentrik in the Swedish Didrik Saga, Middle High German Ermenrîch. Since the name Heiðrekr may have been confused with Ermanaric[citation needed] through folk etymology he is possibly identical to Heiðrekr Ulfhamr of the Hervarar saga

He appears to base this on another name list in the Liber Memorialis naming the Carolingian kings and emperors (in order) "…Caroli imperatoris…Hludowici imperatoris, Hlotarii, Caroli, Ermentrudis," suggesting that this represents AN ABBREVIATED ATTEMPT TO SET OUT THE ANCESTRY of Ermentrude, wife of Graf Gottfried. - Father: Ealdred of BAMBURGH
- Mother: Ædgina of Northumbria
- Birth: BEF 1038, Northumbria, England
- Also known as: Etheldritha
- LifeSketch: Etheldretha (also recorded as Æthelthryth and Etheldritha) was one of 5 daughters of Earl Ealdred of Northumbria, oldest son of Uchtred the Bold. The name of Etheldretha's mother is not known. "English chronicler Simeon of Durham identifies five children of Ealdred, all daughters. Three of those daughters were all named "Ælfleda" (Ælfflaed). The third daughter named Ælfflaed married Siward, Earl of Northumbria. A fourth daughter Ealdgyth (Algitha) married Ligulf, who was murdered in 1080. A fifth daughter Etheldreda (Etheldritha) married Orm, son of Gamel, identified in the Domesday Book as owner of 61 properties in Yorkshire, they had children." Etheldretha's date of birth is not known. Her father's date of birth has been estimated as about 997, the date of his marriage is also not known. Based upon his birth date he could have married as early as 1012, therefore Etheldretha could have been born any time between 1012 and 1038 when her father died. However based upon Simeon of Durham's record it would appear that Etheldretha was the youngest of the 5 daughters and therefore likely born between 1025 and 1038. Simeon of Durham also recorded the marriage of "Etheldritha, one of the five daughters of earl Aldred" and "a certain thane of Yorkshire called Orm the son of Gamel" and records they had one daughter Ecgfrida, who married Eilsi of Tees and had 3 sons and a daughter. Etheldreda married Orm, son of Gamel. They were parents of: 1) Ecgfrida, married Eilse of Tees (sometimes recorded as Elfsige of the Tees), and were parents of : --Waltheof --Eda --unidentified 2nd son --unidentified 3rd son The Doomsday Book records 'Orm son or Gamel' as a rich landholder, in possession of 61 properties in 1066 before the conquest of King William I but in possession of no properties after the conquest. This would seem to indicate he died in the fight against William the Conqueror. There were other men named Orm recorded in the Yorkshire area, therefore, it is possible that after William came into power he was simply recorded by a different name. It is not known what became of Etheldreda after the birth of her children. It is not known when she died.

- Father: Balor
- Mother: Cethlenn
- LifeSketch: In Irish mythology, Ethniu (Old Irish pronunciation: [ˈeθʲnʲu]), or Eithne (Irish pronunciation: [ˈehnʲə]) in modern spelling, is the daughter of the Fomorian leader Balor, and the mother of Lugh. She is also referred to as Ethliu (modern Eithle), genitive Eithlionn (modern Eithleann), dative Ethlinn (modern Eithlinn). Ethniu is a fine example of the difficulty of conducting research into Irish mythology. Her oldest version of her name is probably Ethliu or Ethniu, giving rise to the modern Irish name Eithne. However thanks to changes in the Irish language, the lack of standardised spelling for many centuries, and attempts to anglicise the name, variations have arisen. Linguistic ignorance has further confused the issue: the genitive form of Ethniu is Ethnenn (modern Eithneann) and the genitive of Ethliu is Ethlenn/Ethlinn (modern Eithleann/Eithlinn), as in mac Ethlenn ("Ethliu's son"). This genitive has often been taken for a nominative, or a mistaken nominative has been inferred. Variations and anglicizations include: Ethnea, Eithliu, Ethlend, Ethnen, Ethlenn, Ethnenn, Ethne, Aithne, Enya, Lily, Aine, Ena, Etney, Eithnenn, Eithlenn, Eithna, Ethni, Edlend, Edlenn. In the Wooing of Étaín we are told that Eithne's other name is Boand[1] and in the Banshenchas Ethniu's "true name" is revealed to be Feada.[2] Relationships[edit] Eithne is the daughter of Balor and mother of Lugh. In some traditions Eithne is the daughter of Delbáeth, the mother of the Dagda and Ogma, and the wife of Nuada Airgetlám. In a variant version of the birth of Aengus, she is the wife of Elcmar who is seduced by the Dagda: as such she may be a double, and is explicitly named as such, of Boann, who plays that role in the best-known version of the tale.[3][4] Although in most texts she is a female figure, there are some in which Ethniu is a male name. In the ancient text Baile in Scáil ("The Phantom's Ecstatic Vision"), Lugh is said to the son of "Ethliu son of Tigernmas", or the son of "Ethniu son of Smretha son of Tigernmas". James Bonwick[5] identifies Tigernmas, the king who introduced the worship of Crom Cruach, with Balor. R. A. Stewart Macalister also suggests that Cethlenn is originally a variant of Ethlenn arising from the frequent identification of Lugh as Lugh Mac Ethlenn (thus Mac Ethlenn → Mac Cethlenn).[6] Mythology[edit] Her union with Lugh's father, Cian of the Tuatha Dé Danann, is presented in early texts as a simple dynastic marriage,[7] but later folklore preserves a more involved tale, similar to the birth of Perseus in Greek mythology. A folktale recorded John O'Donovan in 1835 tells how Balor, in an attempt to avoid a druid's prophecy that he will be killed by his own grandson, imprisons Ethniu in a tower on Tory Island away from all contact with men. But a man called Mac Cinnfhaelaidh, whose magical cow Balor stole, gains access to Ethniu's tower, with the magical help of the leanan sídhe Biróg and seduces her. Ethniu gives birth to triplets, but Balor gathers them up in a sheet and sends a messenger to drown them in a whirlpool. The messenger drowns two of the babies, but unwittingly drops one in the harbour, where he is rescued by Biróg. She takes the child back to his father, who gives him to his brother, Gavida the smith, in fosterage. The boy grows up to kill Balor.[8] By comparison with texts like Cath Maige Tuired and the Lebor Gabála Érenn, the unnamed boy is evidently Lugh, and his father, Mac Cinnfhaelaidh, is a stand-in for Cian.[9]The Banshenchas states that her real name was Feada- "Feada was the real name of noble Ethne who was wife of strong stout Cain, and mother of Lug the impetuous superman, and daughter of swift smiting Balor son of Dod son of mighty Net a greater man than pleasant Hector. From him is famed the cairn at Ath Feindead because he fought a duel."[10] The Fosterage of the Houses of the Two Methers has St. Patrick saying of Eithne: I shall leave these virtues for the story of Eithne from the fair Maigue. Success in children, success in foster-sister or brother, to those it may find sleeping with fair women. If you tell of the fosterage before going in a ship or vessel, you will come safe and prosperous without danger from waves and billows. If you tell of the fosterage (before going to a) judgment or a hunting, your case will be (prosperous), all will be submissive before you. To tell the story of Eithne when bringing home a stately wife, good the step you have decided on, it will be a success of spouse and children. Tell the story of noble Ethne before going into a new banqueting house, (you will be) without bitter fight or folly, without the drawing of valiant, pointed weapons. Tell to a king of many followers the story of Ethne to a musical instrument, he gets no cause to repent it, provided he listen without conversation. If you tell this story to the captives of Ireland, it will be the same as if were opened their locks and their bonds.[11]
