- LifeSketch: About Yves de Creil, seigneur de Bellême From Medlands http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORMAN%20NOBILITY.htm IVES de Creil (-1005 or after). [Guillaume of Jumièges records that Louis IV King of the West Franks, after the death of Richard´s father, marched on Rouen, was received by “Rodulphus et Bernardus atque Anslech totius Normannici ducatus tutores”, and captured Richard, who was taken to Laon but was freed by “Osmundus...consilio cum Yvone patre Willelmi de Belismo” and taken to “Silvanectis” where “Bernardus...comes” protected “nepotem suum Richardum”[82]. If correctly reported, this event must be dated to [942/43]. It seems unlikely that Ives, father of Guillaume de Bellême, could have been involved considering his survival until the early years of the following century.] "Ivo…in castro meo Bellismo" founded the chapel of l'Abbayette, with the consent of "duarum…sororum mearum Billehendis atque Eremburgis…duorum avunculorum, Seinfredi episcopi et Guillelmi, atque cognatorum Guillelmi clerici, Roberti, Sutsardi, rursusque Guillelmi laïci", for the souls of "patris mei Fulconii et matris meæ Rothais" by charter dated 12 Oct 997, witnessed by "Hugonis comitis, Radulfi vicecomitis"[83]. Seigneur de Bellême {Mortagne, Orne}, du Saosnais, du Passais et de Sées. "Ivo" founded Notre-Dame de Bellême, for the souls of himself "conjugisque mee Godehildis, sive filiis meis vel genitoribus meis", by undated charter[84]. m GODEHILDIS, daughter of ---. "Ivo" founded Notre-Dame de Bellême, for the souls of himself "conjugisque mee Godehildis, sive filiis meis vel genitoribus meis", by undated charter, confirmed after his death by "Willelmus et Godehildis mater mea"[85]. Ives & his wife had five children: i) GUILLAUME de Bellême (-[1031]). Guillaume of Jumièges records that Robert II Duke of Normandy besieged “Willelmus Belesmensis, Yvonis filius...ex castro Alentio quod beneficio tenebat iure”, who had rebelled, and forced his submission (although he rebelled again later)[86]. Seigneur de Bellême. Sire d'Alençon. - see below. ii) IVES de Bellême (-after [1031]). "Avesgaudus…Cenomannensium presul, meusque frater Ivo" donated property to Saint-Vincent du Mans by charter dated to [995/1032][87]. "Rotberti filii Wilelmi, Ivo suus avunculus" donated property to Notre-Dame de Bellême by undated charter[88]. Abelin lists his donations of property at Le Mans to Marmoutier by charter dated [1064/10 May 1065], naming "Ivonis de Belismo [et] filiis illius Guilelmo, Avesgaudo præsule atque Ivone"[89]. iii) AVESGAUD de Bellême (-Verdun 27 Oct 1035). Abelin lists his donations of property at Le Mans to Marmoutier by charter dated [1064/10 May 1065], naming "Ivonis de Belismo [et] filiis illius Guilelmo, Avesgaudo præsule atque Ivone"[90]. Bishop of Le Mans [997]. The Actus pontificum Cenomannis records the installation of "Avesgaudus, nepos ipsius" as Bishop of Le Mans after the death of "Segenfrido" (in [997])[91]. "Avesgaudus…Cenomannensium presul, meusque frater Ivo" donated property to Saint-Vincent du Mans by charter dated to [995/1032][92]. Bishop Gervais names "avunculi mei Avesgaudi…genitoris cum genetrice mea Haimonis et Hildeburga" in his testament dated [1040/47], which also specifies that "avunculi mei domini Avesgaudi episcopi" died "apud Verdunis VI Kal Nov" on returning from Jerusalem, that "sororis eius, matris mee Hyldeburge" died the same day that "patris mei Haimonis" died "XVIII Kal Feb", and that he was ordained "XIV Kal Jan"[93]. iv) HILDEBURGIS de Bellême (-27 Oct ----). Avesgaud Bishop of Le Mans gave the church of Parigné-l'Evèque and Loué to "unam Hildeburgi sorori suæ primogenitæ et alteram Godehilde germanæ suæ secundæ" by charter dated [1000][94]. The primary source which confirms her marriage has not yet been identified. Bishop Gervais names "avunculi mei Avesgaudi…genitoris cum genetrice mea Haimonis et Hildeburga" in his testament dated [1040/47][95]. m (1006 or before) HAMON [Hamelin] de Château-du-Loir, son of --- (-15 Jan [1030]). v) GODEHILDIS de Bellême . Avesgaud Bishop of Le Mans gave the church of Parigné-l'Evèque and Loué to "unam Hildeburgi sorori suæ primogenitæ et alteram Godehilde germanæ suæ secundæ" by charter dated [1000][96]. The primary source which confirms her first marriage has not yet been identified. "Rodulfus…Cenomannus vicecomes…mee bone coniugis Godehelt…filio Rodulfo" donated property to the abbey of Saint-Victeur du Mans by charter dated to [994][97]. No direct proof has been identified that this is the same Godehildis, but it appears likely to be correct. m [firstly] ALBERT [I] de la Ferté-en-Beauce {la Ferté-Vidame, Eure-et-Loir}, son of ---. [m secondly RAOUL [II] Vicomte du Maine, son of --- (-before 1014).] Godehildis & her [first] husband had one child: (a) ALBERT [II] de la Ferté-en-Beauce . Motey names Albert as son of Godehildis and her first husband, stating that he became a monk at Jumièges after his wife died and was elected abbé de Saint-Etienne et de Saint-Mesmin near Orléans, but cites no primary source[98]. Abbot at Micy. m (before 989) --- de Châteaudun, daughter of HUGUES Vicomte de Châteaudun & his wife Hildegarde du Perche. The primary source which confirms her parentage and marriage has not yet been identified. Albert & his wife had one child: (1) ARNOUL de la Ferté-en-Beauce (-1053). "Arnulphus ex nobili Alençoniorum et Bellismensium comitum genere, nepos Avesgaudi et consobrinus Gervasii" was elected archbishop of Tours[99]. [3, 2] Child: + 5 i. MABEL5 of Alencon, Eure, France, b. circa 1026, d. in 1079; m. (AAL-5) ROGER DE MONTGOMERY, EARL OF SHREWSBURY in 1048.

- LifeSketch: Wihtlæg, Whitlæg, Wighlek, Wiglecus, Wiglek, Witlac or Viglek is a legendary king of either Denmark or Angeln in Germanic legends. He is known in Saxo's kings of Denmark by the name of Vigletus. In the Anglo-Saxon royal genealogies, Whitlæg is a descendant of Woden. According to the genealogies in the Anglian collection, Woden's son Weothulgeot was ancestor to the royal house of Mercia and the father of Whitlæg. According to the Historia Britonum, Weothulgeot was father of Weaga who was father of Whitlæg. But the two Anglo-Saxon Chronicle versions of this genealogy include neither Weothulgeot nor Weaga but make Whitlæg himself the son of Woden. In all versions Whitlæg is father of Wermund, father of Offa of Angel. According to the Old English poem Widsith Offa ruled over the continental Angles. The 12th-century Gesta Danorum tells that when the Danish king Rorik Slyngebond had died Wiglek succeeded him. He took all the wealth from the mother of Amleth (Hamlet) and complained about Amleth's actions as the ruler of Jutland. Amleth, on the other hand offered Wiglek riches, in reconciliation. Wiglek disposed of Fiallar, the ruler of Scania who retired to Undensakre, and then he mustered the leidang of Zealand and Scania, and sent a message to Amleth challenging him to war. In the battle Amleth fell, and his wife Hermutrude gave up herself as Wiglek's spoil of war. Wiglek died of illness and was succeeded by his son Wermund, the father of Uffo (Offa). Kemp Malone suggested that Saxo's Wiglek "probably represents a fusion of the Geatish Wiglaf and the Anglian Wihtlaeg." - LifeSketch: Jordanes quotes the Roman historian Priscus, "who was sent to (Attila the Hun) on an embassy by the younger Theodosius." Priscus said: "Crossing mighty rivers -- namely, the Tisia and Tibisia and Dricca -- we came to the place where long ago VIDIGOIA, bravest of the Goths, perished by the guile of the Sarmatians." Vidigoia was a legendary Gothic hero, and nothing historical is known of him -- we only know that the Goths celebrated his memory and his bravery, and that he was remembered as having been slain through the guile of the Sarmatians. Although his original story was forgotten, he continued to be celebrated in medieval Germanic legend and saga, where he is called WUDGA or VITHGA or WIDIA or WITTICH. The Anglo-Saxon name "Wihtgeat" is not an equivalent to "Vidigoia." In Anglo-Saxon sources, Vidigoia was called Wudga. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GEN-MEDIEVAL/2004-04/1083343287

His name is also mentioned in the Old English poem Widsith. He has been identified with Uffo (also Uffe, Uffi of Jutland), a legendary Danish king in the Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus. The Old English poem Widsith (8th century) refers briefly to his victorious single combat, a story which is related at length by the 12th-century Danish historians Saxo and Sven Aggesen. Offa is also mentioned in the Annales Ryenses, Vita Offae Primi and Vitae duorum Offarum. According to Widsith and the Danish sources, Offa successfully conquered the Myrgings, possibly a clan of Saxon origin, and incorporated their land into Angel or Danish lands, by slaying two Myrging princes in single combat and installing himself as their king. - Father: Chlothar II King of NEUSTRIA
- Mother: Adeltrudis OF SOISSONS
- Birth: ABT 618, Soissons, Kingdom of Neustria, Frankish Empire
- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia Charibert II (618- April 632), a son of Clotaire II and his junior wife Sichilde, was briefly King of Aquitaine from 629 to his death, with his capital at Toulouse. We have no direct statement about when Charibert was born exactly, only that he was "a few years younger" than his half-brother Dagobert.[1] His father Clotaire evidently had a bigamous marriage (not then uncommon) and he was the offspring of the junior wife. When his father, Clotaire II, King of the Franks, died in 629, Charibert made a bid for the kingdom of Neustria against his elder half-brother Dagobert I, who had already been king of Austrasia since 623. In the ensuing negotiations, Charibert, a minor, was represented by his uncle Brodulf, the brother of Queen Sichilde. Dagobert had Brodulf killed, but did not intercede when his half-brother took over the near-independent realm of Aquitaine. Apparently this caused no disagreement, as in 631 Charibert stood godfather to Dagobert's son Sigebert. Charibert's realm included Toulouse, Cahors, Agen, Périgueux, and Saintes, to which he added his possessions in Gascony. Charibert was married to Gisela, the daughter of Amand, Ruler of the Gascons. His fighting force subdued the resistance of the Basques, until the whole Novempopulania (become Duchy of Vasconia) was under his control. In 632, Charibert died at Blaye, Gironde—possibly assassinated on Dagobert's orders—and soon after that Charibert's infant son Chilperic was also killed. Aquitaine passed again to Dagobert. Both Charibert and his son are buried in the early Romanesque Basilica of Saint-Romain at Blaye. *********************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy King Clotaire II & his [second/third] wife had one child: 5. CHARIBERT ([618/19]-631, bur Blaye, basilique Saint-Romain). The Gesta Dagoberti names "Hairbertum" as the son of King Clotaire & his wife "Sichildem"[377]. According to Fredegar, after his father died Charibert "made an attempt to seize the kingdom but his cause made little headway since he was simple-minded"[378], although the reference may have been intended to reflect merely his youth rather than mental incapacity. His brother King Dagobert installed him in 629 as CHARIBERT II King of the Franks, governing the territory between the Loire and the Spanish border. Fredegar records that King Dagobert granted "pagum Tholosanum, Cathornicum, Agenninsem, Petrocorecum et Santonecum" to "fratri suo Cairiberto", who established his capital at Toulouse and expanded his territory by subjugating Gascony in the third year of his brother's reign[379]. Fredegar records the death of "Charibertus rex" in the ninth year of King Dagobert's reign[380]. m ---. The name of King Charibert's wife is not known. King Charibert II & his wife had one child: a) [CHILPERICH ([630]-after 631 young). Fredegar records that "Charibertus rex" left "filium parvolum…Chilpericum" who only survived his father for a short time, recording that "it was said that Dagobert's followers brought about his assassination"[381]. If the marriage date of Chilperich's paternal grandparents is correct as shown above, Chilperich's father could not have been more than twelve years old when his son was born.]

He was the second son of Emperor Louis the Pious and his first wife, Ermengarde of Hesbaye. When his father assigned to each of his sons a kingdom within the Empire in August 817, Pepin received Aquitaine, which had been Louis's own sub-kingdom during his father Charlemagne's reign. Ermoldus Nigellus was Pepin's court poet and accompanied him on a campaign into Brittany in 824. In 830, Pepin rebelled at the insistence of his brother Lothair's advisor Wala. He took an army of Gascons with him and marched all the way to Paris, with the support of the Neustrians. His father marched back from a campaign in Brittany to Compiègne, where Pepin surrounded his forces and captured him. However, the rebellion broke up. In 832, Pepin rebelled again and his brother Louis the German soon followed. Louis the Pious was in Aquitaine to subdue any revolt, but was drawn off by the Bavarian insurrection of the younger Louis. Pepin took Limoges and other Imperial territories. The next year, Lothair joined the rebellion and, with the assistance of Ebbo, Archbishop of Reims, the rebel sons deposed their father in 833. Lothair's later behavior alienated Pepin, and the latter was at his father's side when Louis the Pious was reinstated on March 1, 834. Pepin was restored to his former status. Pepin died scarcely four years later and was buried in the Church of St. Radegonde in Poitiers. In 822, Pepin had married Ingeltrude, daughter of Theodobert, Count of Madrie, with whom he had two sons: Pepin, and Charles, who became Archbishop of Mainz. Both were minors when Pepin died, so Louis the Pious awarded Aquitaine to his own youngest son, Pepin's half-brother Charles the Bald. The Aquitainians, however, elected Pepin's son as Pepin II. His brother Charles also briefly claimed the kingdom. Both died childless. Pepin also had two daughters, one of whom married Gerard, Count of Auvergne. -- Wikiwand: Pepin I of Aquitaine
