- LifeSketch: Conan Meriadoc, 'King' of Dumnonia & Brittany (Born c.AD 305) (Welsh: Cynan; Latin: Conanus; English: Conan) Conan was the son of Octavius the Old's brother, Gerontius, (or Octavius himself according to the Dream of Macsen Wledig). He had expected to inherit his uncle's position of influence in what is now Wales, until his cousin, Helena, married the Roman citizen, Magnus Maximus. Originally, Conan was considerably put out by this man's rise to power and he organised a rebellion against him, aided by Picts & Scots. However, being defeated, Conan became great friends with his rival and travelled with Maximus to the continent to help him become Emperor of the West. He was given control over Armorica (modern Brittany) as a reward for killing the previous holder of the title. His new province, was well settled by his men-at-arms, however they lacked wives. Therefore, in order to populate the area, he sent to his uncle's old ally, Donaut of Dumnonia for numerous Cornish ladies. Conan proposed to cement the alliance of their two peoples by marrying Donaut's daughter, Ursula. Though Donaut was delighted at the match, Ursula had her heart set on a life devoted only to God. She agreed to the marriage, on the condition that she first be allowed to go on a pilgrimage throughout Europe. Conan appears to have joined her in Rome, where the two must have been married, probably by Pope Cyriacus himself. He apparently did not travel to Cologne where Ursula died. In later years, he gained considerable influence in Dumnonia after the death of his father-in-law. The Governorship of Armorica & Dumnonia was united for only a short time. As his second wife, Conan married Dareca of Ireland, a supposed, though unlikely, sister of St. Patrick. Upon Conan's death, around AD 395, control of each region fell to the sons of his two marriages, Gadeon and Gradlon.

- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Cador (Latin: Cadorius) was a legendary Duke of Cornwall, known chiefly through Geoffrey of Monmouth's pseudohistorical Historia Regum Britanniae and previous manuscript sources such as the Life of Carantoc.[1] Early sources present Cador as a relative of King Arthur, though the details of their kinship are usually left unspecified.[2] Historicity Many stories involving Arthurian figures were likely passed down orally, which has led to many different interpretations and versions of the people and characters mentioned.[3] Scholars generally question the historical accuracy of these tales. Evidence shows that people like Arthur may have been real historical figures. However, most of the deeds of Arthur have been discredited. Because of this, the people he is associated with and their stories could be solely a part of the orally passed down myths of Arthur's legacy and not true history. One of these figures was Cado, a successor of Geraint ab Erbin and a close associate of Arthur. Cador, the Duke of Cornwall, was a member that was summoned to Arthur's court. While it seems that Cador the Duke of Cornwall could have been a real historical figure, interpretations and stories that include him are very diverse in their information so understanding the true historical context of figures like him is difficult. Sources like King Arthur: The Truth Behind the Legend explain how the Arthurian history has been mixed with fact and fiction which means many events and figures could not have been accurate. “The Arthurian saga is nevertheless much more than a hotchpotch of tales made up by medieval minstrels, and it is essential to try to separate the Arthur of the romances—the Arthur of Geoffrey of Monmouth, Thomas Malory and the medieval troubadours—from the historical Arthur—the dark age warrior on whom all the rest of the super-structure was built”. Scholars were able to narrow down the true historical facts of Arthur's life to two things. “ Some scholars have taken everything out, argued everything away, leaving just two brief mentions in the Easter Annals: 516: Battle of Badon, in which Arthur carried the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ on his shoulders for three days and three nights, and the British were victors. 537: Strife of Camlann, in which Arthur and Medraut perished [or fell]” (King Arthur: The Truth Behind the Legend). However, there is still a lot of information that is debatable of being facts or a part of the pseudohistory.[4] Arthur, who died May 21, 542 A.D., gave his crown to Constantine who was the son of Cador the Duke of Cornwall noting the possible time period and years in which Cador could have lived.[5] Name The name “Cador” does not match any early Welsh sources, so the name itself comes either the misinterpretation of the Harley genealogy name “Catgur” or the British “Catigern”. Both names are interpreted similarly showing that the name Cador means "battle notable" or "fighter" due to the fact that “Cat” means battle and “Gur” means man or warrior while “Tigern” means leader. Where the name Cador came from is a mystery due to the fact that it is not found in early Welsh sources, but it was very easy for letters to be dropped out of “Catgur” or “Catigern” causing the name Cador to be formed.[6] Cador, who was mainly mentioned by Geoffrey of Monmouth, has also been called/recognized by two other names: Cado and Cadwy in different works like Myvyrian, Life of S. Carannog, and early fifteenth century pedigrees.[7] His title Duke of Cornwall was also a title that took on different forms over history because Cornwall was once a part of the Roman civitas Dumnonia, giving Cador the name King of Dumnonia which is recognizable in many works. Origins and relations Cador was reputed to be the son of Geraint ( Latin Gerontius, Cornish Gerrens ) who a King of Dumnonia and an historic hero that died quite early leaving his rule to Hoel because Cador was not at a proper age for leadership. He was known to have children himself who go by the names Constantine (Welsh Custennin) Peredur, and Cadoc. He had shared lineage with King Arthur due to the fact that he was the great grandson of Arthur's Duke, based on the idea of Custennyn and Constantine genealogies being equivalent to each other.[8] Cador also had three brothers by the names of Cyngar, Iestyn, and Selyf who are all saints of Llancarfan and are mentioned to be related to Cador in the Myvyrian.[9] Along with his brothers, Cador was known to have a sister named Gurguint who was married to Caradoc Vreichfas who was a legend in Welsh history and was alive during the same time period as Arthur.[10] According to writings from Geoffrey, Cador was married to a woman named Ygerna, who was courted and tricked by Arthur's father Uther Pendragon while Cador was away in battle.[11] Cador is also thought to have been related to Arthur because he is addressed as so in different texts. Layamon, an English poet, writes that Arthur said, “Cador, thou art mine own kin”(King Arthur's Children: A Study in Fiction and Tradition, pg.98). However, it is also made known in some works that Constantine, who was established to be Cador's son, was Arthur's cousin making Cador a possible in-law relative rather than through blood.[12] Cador’s battles Cador's battles are not recorded in the Historia Brittonum Arthurian Battle list but are mentioned in many different works. He battled in Saxons, and oversea impending force to Arthur, as they were on their way to York. Before they reached that place, Cador used his army to defeat them and took over York. After the defeat, the Saxons surrender to a pledge of peace and retreat. The Saxons break the pledge of peace they made an oath to while on sea, which leads to another battle between the Saxons and Arthur. In that battle, Cador killed the Saxon leader named Chelric. His next big battle was at Camblan although there were a few little altercations in between like the Roman War. At the battle at Camblan, Cador is found dead with some of his troops, thus marking an end to his battles.[13] Historia Regum Britanniae/Arthurian pseudohistory Cador, Duke of Cornwall, appears in Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (ca. 1135). He is a man of power, as he is referred to as both a duke (dux) and a king (rex) throughout the text. He is known best for his heroism in the battles in York and Isle of Thanet told in Historia Regum Britanniae. Although he is highlighted for his great strength and involvement as a hero, none of Cador's battles appear in the Arthurian Battle list. The legitimacy and accuracy of Cador's involvement with these wars remain in question by scholars. He is successful in both battles, easily defeating the army in York as well as killing the leader of the Saxon barbarians, Chelric, on the Isle of Thanet. Arthur's most successful siege, the Battle of Bath, proceeds the battle at the Isle of Thanet: strangely illogical given the timeline. Even so, Cador undermines the success of Arthur as he won against the Saxons in a far off region. Historians from both Saxony and Britain do not note on any battle occurring in that region until the sixth century. The legitimacy of this battle could be completely fabricated for literary purposes.[14] Anglo-Saxon Chronicle Scholars have speculated that the legitimacy of Cador's battles can be found through the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, presumably written by Alfred the Great. Since there is only one named British Commander, Vortigern, scholars have aligned the timelines in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and the Historia Regum Britanniae to assess the legitimacy of Cador. Many similarities between the battles can be noted. There is an encounter in York, or along the Canterbury-London road with anywhere between 3,000 and 4,000 British soldiers. Here, Arthur and the British retreat to London in both versions of history. The next battle with the supposed Cador is in Thanet, which is noted in both Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and Historia Regum Britanniae. The British Commander in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, despite being unnamed, is speculated to be the Cador in Historia Regum Britanniae because of the similarities.[15] Historical ruler Cado was the historical son of a Dumnonian king named Gerrens whom he succeeded as monarch. Traditionally he was a good friend of Arthur; they even ruled together in the Vita Sanctus Carantoci (Life of St. Carantoc). He also seemed to share a good relationship with King Caradoc of Gwent. Possibly he gave his name to four hillforts, all named Cadbury which may be "Cado's fort", one each near to Clevedon, Congresbury and Sparkford in Somerset and one by the Exe in Devon north of Crediton. Cadson Bury[16] hill fort lies just outside Callington, also known as Celliwig in Cornwall. Legend In Geoffrey's History and elsewhere, Arthur's future queen Guinevere was raised as Cador's ward. Cador is also said to be of Roman stock. His son Constantine was given the kingship of Britain by Arthur as the latter lay ailing on the field of Camlann. To the Brut Tysilio the translator adds the information that Cador was son of Gorlois, presumably by Igraine, which would make him Arthur's maternal half-brother. This same text also gives Cador a son, Mayric, who dies fighting the Romans. The same account appears in Richard Hardyng's Chronicle where Cador is called Arthur's brother "of his mother's syde." In Layamon's Brut Cador appears as a leader who takes charge of Uther's host when they are attacked by Gorlois while Uther is secretly lying beside Igraine in Tintagel. Most works, such as the English Alliterative Morte Arthure and Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, however, call Cador Arthur's "cousin", though in the Alliterative text Arthur calls Cador his sister's son.

- Title Of Nobility: Leader of the Britons
- LifeSketch: Vortigern (/ˈvɔːrtɪdʒɜːrn/; Old Welsh Guorthigirn, Guorthegern; Welsh: Gwrtheyrn; Old English: Wyrtgeorn; Old Breton Gurdiern, Gurthiern; Irish: Foirtchern; Latin: Vortigernus, Vertigernus, Uuertigernus, etc), also spelled Vortiger, Vortigan, and Vortigen, was possibly a 5th-century warlord in Britain, known perhaps as a king of the Britons, at least connoted as such in the writings of Bede. His existence is nonetheless contested by scholars, and information about him is obscure. He may have been the "superbus tyrannus" said to have invited Hengist and Horsa to aid him in fighting the Picts and the Scots. However, they revolted, killing his son in the process and forming the Kingdom of Kent. It is said that he took refuge in North Wales, and that his grave was in Dyfed or the Llŷn Peninsula. The historian Gildas denigrated Vortigern for his misjudgement and also blamed him for the loss of Britain. He is cited at the beginning of the genealogy of the early Kings of Powys. -- From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

- Father: Gwrst Ledlum AP KENAW of Manwyr

- Title Of Nobility: King of Rheged
- National Identification: IND10958
- LifeSketch: History files.co.uk c.450 - c.490 Gwrast Lledlwm (the Ragged) - (Father of Merchion) Son of Ceneu of Northern Britain. First king. Born 422. c.450 Gwrast inherits a land with existing Christian activity of the British Church which covers - at least - the fourth and fifth centuries. One area of such activity is around Hadrian's Wall, with possible churches and epigraphy which should include the Papias stone from Carlisle and the Brigomaglos stone, along with a stone incised with a cross from Vindolanda. Gwrast is the Welsh form of his name and is therefore probably later, despite the Cumbric dialect spoken in Rheged being closely related to Old Welsh. He is more probably known as Gurgustus, the Latin form of the name (Fergus is its modern form). Vindolanda Roman fort (image in text) Vindolanda, roughly at the centrepoint in the Wall, may well have fallen under the influence of Rheged after the primary division of the 'Kingdom of Northern Britain' around AD 450 c.470 Gwrast's eldest son, Meirchion Gul, is his confirmed successor to the throne of Rheged. For his younger son, Mascuid, the region of Elmet, which until now appears to have been under the direct control of Rheged, is granted to him. This event seems to coincide with the death of Mor ap Ceneu, 'King of Northern Britain', and the subsequent division of his north-eastern territory into Ebrauc to the east of Elmet and the 'Kingdom of the Pennines' to the west. This would probably leave Elmet permanently cut off from Rheged and perhaps even in danger of annexation, so it is in Gwrast's interests to ensure that one of his sons is in command of the territory. c.490 - 535 Meirchion Gul (the Lean) Son. Mentioned in a Middle Welsh genealogy. c.490 Gawain appears to rule Guotodin from a distance, being found first in Rheged and then in Wales. c.500 - 525 One site in Rheged which is of interest is Papcastle, on the north bank of the River Derwent about nine kilometres (5.5 miles) along the Roman road from the coast at Maryport in Cumbria. It had been an important Roman site and lies close to the later site of a minster at Brigham, which possibly has Christian activity dating from the fourth or fifth century. Papcastle derives its name from Pabo, the name of the king of the Pennines in this period. Although it is speculation to wonder, could it be possible that Pabo has a holding at the site, even though it is within Rheged? He would be Meirchion's first cousin once removed, so the family ties are doubtless still close, and possibly all of the interrelated kings of the North hold pockets of territory or buildings across the region. 535 Upon Meirchion's death the kingdom is divided between his sons to form North and South Rheged. The practice of division is typical practice with Celtic peoples, but it usually serves to weaken the state.

- LifeSketch: Merfyn Frych seized control of Gwynedd in 825 on the death of Hywel ap Rhodri Molwynog, though he may have held power in Anglesey since 818. Merfyn was not a member of the traditional dynasty of Gwynedd, the direct male line of Maelgwn Gwynedd, and his succession marked the start of a new dynasty. His claim was apparently based on the fact that his mother, Esyllt, was the daughter of Cynan Dindaethwy ap Rhodri and the niece of Hywel ap Rhodri. According to bardic tradition, Merfyn came "from the land of Manaw", but it is uncertain whether this refers to the Isle of Man ("Ynys Manaw" in Welsh) or to Manaw Gododdin, the area around the Firth of Forth. It would seem likely that it was the latter on account of the probability he would be a blood relative of Cunedda, the founder of the Gwynedd dynasty, who was a prince of Manaw Gododdin. On the other hand there is an inscription "Crux Guriat" on a cross in the Isle of Man. This cross has been dated to the eighth or ninth century and might possibly refer to Merfyn's father. Merfyn allied himself to the royal house of Powys by marrying Nest, daughter of Cadell ap Brochwel and sister of Cyngen king of Powys. [Actually, according to The History of The Princes, The Lords Marcher, and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, Nest verch Cadell is Merfyn's mother, not his wife.] He had a reputation as a patron of scholars; for example the Historia Britonum attributed to Nennius is thought to have been written in Gwynedd during his reign, possibly by request of Merfyn himself. A manuscript found at Bamberg gives a further insight into Merfyn's scholarly interests. Irish visitors to his court were given a cryptogram which could only be solved by transposing the letters from Latin into Greek. Despite Danish raids, Merfyn was able to maintain his position and on his death in 844 to hand the Kingdom over intact to his son Rhodri the Great. He is said to have died in battle, but the circumstances are not recorded. His descendants came to rule not only Gwynedd but also Powys and Deheubarth and played a major role in Welsh politics until the end of Welsh independence in 1283. Powys was united with Gwynedd when king Merfyn Frych of Gwynedd married princess Nest, the sister of king Cyngen of Powys, [Actually, according to The History of The Princes, The Lords Marcher, and the Ancient Nobility of Powys Fadog, Nest verch Cadell is Merfyn's mother, not his wife.] the last representative of the Gwertherion dynasty. With the death of Cyngen in 855 Rhodri became king of Powys, having inherited Gwynedd the year before. This formed the basis of Gwynedd's continued claims of overlordship over Powys for the next 443 years.

- LifeSketch: Elisedd, King of Powys (c.695-773) (Latin: Elisetus; English: Ellis) Elisedd is best known for his memorial stone: Eliseg's Pillar standing in Llantysilio-yn-Ial in Northern Powys. It was once topped by an enormous cross, and was erected by his great grandson, King Cyngen, some one hundred years after Elisedd's ascendancy in the early 8th century. Its inscription praises his victories against the Saxons and includes an exceptional record of the Powysian pedigree, stretching back through his father King Gwylog ap Beli's line to Vortigern and Magnus Maximus. Elisedd lived at nearby Castell Dinas-Bran, which is also associated with the Celtic ancestor god, Bran, and King Arthur's Quest for the Holy Grail. EBK: King Elisedd of Powys. (2017). Earlybritishkingdoms.com. Retrieved 30 May 2017, from http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/bios/elisepw.html BIO: from British Kings and Queens (Mike Ashsley) p 155 Elisedd (or Eliseg) Powys, 725-? Elisedd was remembered by his great grandson, Cyngen ap Cadell, a century later, for having rebuilt Powys and recovered lands from the English. He erected a stone column, now known as "Eliseg's Pillar" which commemorated his descent, tracing it all the way back to Vortigern. The genealogy provides us with some dating problems, but we must assume that Elisedd lived sometime in the early/mid eighth century. This coincides with the reign of the Mercian king Athelbald, a turbulent period where the Mercians generally had the upper hand but where some victories went to the underdogs. We can image the Elisedd succeeded in regaining lands along the Welsh/Mercian border from this powerful king, which made his victories all the more significant. It is possible the Elisedd ruled (or was active as a battle leader) earlier, because there are Welsh border incidents recorded during the reign of the Merican king Cenred, around the year 708. The fact that the Pillar was erected at Llangollen, well inside the later Welsh border, shows that these territorial gains were not permanent. ** from Wikipedia listing for Elisedd ap Gwylog Elisedd ap Gwylog (died c. 755), also known as Elise, was king of Powys in eastern Wales. Little has been preserved in the historical records about Elisedd, who was a descendant of Brochwel Ysgithrog. He appears to have reclaimed the territory of Powys after it had been overrun by the English. His great-grandson, Cyngen ap Cadell erected a column in his memory which stands not far from the later abbey of Valle Crucis. This is known as the Pillar of Eliseg, but the form Eliseg which appears on the column is thought to be a mistake by the carver of the inscription. The Latin inscription on the pillar is now very hard to read, but was apparently clearer in the time of Edward Lhuyd who transcribed it. The translation of the part of the inscription referring to Elisedd is as follows: + Concenn son of Catell, Catell son of Brochmail, Brochmail son of Eliseg, Eliseg son of Guoillauc. + And that Concenn, great-grandson of Eliseg, erected this stone for his great-grandfather Eliseg. + The same Eliseg, who joined together the inheritance of Powys . . . out of the power of the Angles with his sword and with fire. + Whosoever repeats the writing, let him give a blessing on the soul of Eliseg. Some old poems refer to Elisedd and assert he had a "special crown, a chain of twisted gold links, and armlets and anklets of gold which were the badges of sovereignty of Powys".[1] These artifacts have disappeared from history but perhaps resurfaced briefly during the coronation of Owain Glyndŵr in 1400. Elisedd was succeeded by his son Brochfael. References ^ Pre Welsh History John Edward Lloyd (1911) A history of Wales from the earliest times to the Edwardian conquest (Longmans, Green & Co.) ** from Wikipedia listing for Pillar of Eliseg The Pillar of Eliseg also known as Elise's Pillar or Croes Elisedd in Welsh, stands near Valle Crucis Abbey, Denbighshire, Wales, at grid reference SJ204442. It was erected by Cyngen ap Cadell (died 855), king of Powys in honour of his great-grandfather Elisedd ap Gwylog. The form Eliseg found on the pillar is thought to be a mistake by the carver of the inscription. The Latin inscription not only mentions several individuals described in the Historia Britonum, but also complements the information presented in that text. A generally accepted translation of this inscription, one of the longest surviving inscriptions from pre-Viking Wales, is as follows: † Concenn son of Cattell, Cattell son of Brochmail, Brochmail son of Eliseg, Eliseg son of Guoillauc. † And that Concenn, great-grandson of Eliseg, erected this stone for his great-grandfather Eliseg. † The same Eliseg, who joined together the inheritance of Powys . . . throughout nine (years?) out of the power of the Angles with his sword and with fire. † Whosoever shall read this hand-inscribed stone, let him give a blessing on the soul of Eliseg. † This is that Concenn who captured with his hand eleven hundred acres [4.5 km²] which used to belong to his kingdom of Powys . . . and which . . . . . . the mountain [the column is broken here. One line, possibly more, lost] . . . the monarchy . . . Maximus . . . of Britain . . . Concenn, Pascent, Maun, Annan. † Britu son of Vortigern, whom Germanus blessed, and whom Sevira bore to him, daughter of Maximus the king, who killed the king of the Romans. † Conmarch painted this writing at the request of king Concenn. † The blessing of the Lord be upon Concenn and upon his entire household, and upon the entire region of Powys until the Day of Judgement. The Pillar was thrown down by the Roundheads during the English Civil War and a grave under it opened. Edward Lhuyd examined the Pillar and copied the inscription in 1696. The lower half disappeared but the upper half was re-erected in 1779. The original inscription is now illegible. - Birth: ABT 569, Caernarfonshire, Gwynedd, North Wales, Wales
- Christening: North Wales
- Also known as: King of Gwynedd
- Occupation: Roi de Gwyned
- Title Of Nobility: King of Gwynedd
- LifeSketch: BIO: from http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/WALES.htm#IdwalapCadwaladrA CADFAN ap Iago (-625). He succeeded his father in 616 as CADFAN King of Gwynedd. ** from British Kings and Queens (Mike Ashley) p 145 Cadfan ap Iago Gwynedd, c615-c620 Cadfan is remembered as a wise king, which suggests that not only did he adminster the laws justly to his subjects, but that he also succeeded in maintaining peace at a time of growing hostility between the Welsh and the Angles, especially the Northumbrian king Athelfrith. Despite Athelfrith's victory at the Battle of Chester, Cadfan continued to shelter Edwin, the Northumbrian prince whom Athelfrith was intent on killing. When Athelfrith was himself killed in battle four years alter, Edwin was restored to his throne. He did not show any particular favourtism to his saviours, however; he became intent on conquering other Celtic lands, including Elmet, Rheged and Man, and was eventually killed by Cadfan's son Cadwallon. ** from http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/bios/cadfagd.html Cadfan, King of Gwynedd (c.AD 580-625) (Latin: Catamanus; English: Gideon) Cadfan was the son of King Iago of Gwynedd for whom he fought at the Battle of Caer-Legion (Chester), against King Aethelfrith of Bernicia, in AD 613. When it was over, he found that his father was dead and he was King. The Battle of Bangor-is-Coed (Bangor-upon-Dee) followed in quick succession, and the young monarch showed such leadership that he was, afterwards, declared High-King of the Britons. This border campaign was centred on Aethelfrith's attempts to recapture his enemy, the exiled King Edwin of Deira. According to Geoffrey of Monmouth, this young lad had been taken in by Cadfan and raised as his foster-son; but the two were actually of similar age and so it seems that Edwin was really Cadfan's foster-brother. So many Welshmen fell in the two battles that Edwin felt it best to move on and left Gwynedd for the court of King Redwald of East Anglia. Cadfan was a patron of St. Beuno and married Afandreg Ddu (the Black) daughter of King Cynan Garwyn of Powys. He was the "wisest and most splendid of all kings" according to his memorial stone which can still be seen today in the church of Eglwys Ael (Llangadwaladr) on Ynys Mon (Anglesey). He was buried there after dying, probably at nearby Aberffraw, around AD 625. Cadfan was succeeded by his son, Cadwallon. EBK: King Cadfan of Gwynedd. (2017). Earlybritishkingdoms.com. Retrieved 3 June 2017, from http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/bios/cadfagd.html ** from Wikipedia listing for Cadfan ap Iago Cadfan ap Iago (c. 580–625; reigned from c. 615) (Latin: Catamanus; English: Gideon) was a King of Gwynedd. The son of King Iago, he assumed the crown of Gwynedd probably around 615, shortly after the Battle of Caerllion (today's Chester), during which the forces of Powys were defeated by Æthelfrith of Bernicia. Cadfan was generally considered to have been a wise and just ruler, noted for his ability to maintain the rule of law and peace during an increasingly hostile period in British history. His memorial stone at Llangadwaladr Church in Anglesey refers to him as "Catamanus rex sapientisimus opinatisimus omnium regum" (="King Cadfan the wisest and most renowned of all kings"). He was succeeded by his son Cadwallon. He was one of the last of the legendary Kings of the Britons as accounted by Geoffrey of Monmouth.

- Father: Imanuentius, King of the Trinovantes
- Birth: ABT 40 BC, Britain
- Title Of Nobility: King of Catuvellauni
- Reigned from 48 BC - 20 BC: King of Briton
- LifeSketch: Tasciovanus is known only through numismatic evidence. He appears to have become king of the Catuvellauni c. 20 BC, ruling from Verlamion (the site of modern-day St Albans). He is believed to have moved the tribal capital to that site from an earlier settlement, near modern-day Wheathampstead.[citation needed] For a brief period c. 15–10 BC he issued coins from Camulodunum (Colchester), apparently supplanting Addedomarus of the Trinovantes. After this he once again issued his coins from Verlamion, now bearing the legend RICON, for *Rigonos, Common Brittonic for "great/divine/legitimate king". Some of his coins bear other abbreviated names such as "DIAS", "SEGO" and "ANDOCO": these are generally considered to be the names of co-rulers or subordinate kings, but may instead be mint-marks. He died c. AD 9, succeeded by his son Cunobeline, who ruled primarily from Camulodunum. Another son, Epaticcus, expanded his territory westwards into the lands of the Atrebates.[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasciovanus
