- Also known as: Audoin
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Lombards
- LifeSketch: "The election and elevation of the king in the early Middle Ages. Investigations into the succession of the Lombards and Merovingians" Audoin was definitely from a noble family, although nothing more is known about it. However, it was linked to the old Lombard royal house and that of the Thuringians via Audoin's mother. Her first name was Menia and she was married to the Thuringian king Bisin, so that Wacho's first wife Radegunde, who came from this marriage, was Audoin's half-sister. Audoin's father, whom Menia married for the second time, is not known by name. It can be added that Audoin himself had Rodelinde as a wife, who was perhaps of Bavarian origin. From this marriage came Audoin's son and successor Alboin. At the behest of the emperor, Audoin married a daughter of the Thuringian king Herminafried, whose father had once fled to Italy and was brought to Byzantium in 540 by Belisarius together with the captured Ostrogoth king Witiches. Audoin's current wife was directly related to the Ostrogoth king as his grandniece through her mother Amalaberga and grandmother Amalafrieda, a sister of Theodoric. Zöllner Erich: Seite 40 The History Files 546 - c.565 Audoin / Alduin First of the Gausian kings. 550s - 560s Under Audoin, the Langobards cross the Danube to re-enter Pannonia. Once there, they are granted subsidies by the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I, who encourages them to fight the Gepids who have established a large kingdom in Dacia. In effect, they are being hired as foederati, mercenaries, a role they fulfil to perfection. The Gepid kingdom is destroyed by 567. Alboin forcibly marries Rosamund, the daughter of the Gepid king. ******************************* Wikipedia Audoin was of the Gausi, a prominent Lombard ruling clan, and according to the Historia Langobardorum, the son of Menia, the Lombard wife of Basinus, king of the Thuringii,[3] and half-brother to King Hermanfrid of Thuringia and Raicunda, the wife of the Lombard king Wacho. According to the Decem Libri of Gregory of Tours, in 531, Hermanfrid was defeated at the battle of Unstrut and Thuringia was annexed to the Frankish empire. Hermanfrid traveled under safe conduct to meet with Theuderic at Zülpich. While walking along the city walls with Theuderic, Hermanfrid was thrown from the ramparts to his death.[4] According to Procopius (History of the Wars V, 13), after Hermanfrid's death, his widow Amalaberga fled with her children, Amalafrid and Rodelinda, to her brother Theodahad who was at that time (534-36) King of the Ostrogoths.[5] Around 539, during the Gothic War, they were captured by the Byzantine general Belisarius and sent to Constantinople. Justinian made Amalafrid a general and married off his sister Rodelinda to Audoin. [6] Around 540 was elected regent for Walthari, the minor son of King Wacho and his third wife Silinga. He led the Lombards to Pannonia, where they were settled by Justinian I and in 541 signed a treaty becoming fœderati of the Byzantines, entrusted with the task of securing the Danube border against the Franks. After Walthari's death around 547, Audoin became king. Beginning in 551, Audoin was obliged to send troops to serve Narses in Italy in the Gothic War against the Ostrogoths. The next year (552), he sent over 5,000 men to defeat the Goths on the slopes of Vesuvius. That same year Audoin had been able to inflict a heavy defeat on the Gepids with the help of his brother-in-law Amalafrid:[7] the Gepid king Thurisind lost his eldest son, Turismod, in the Battle of Asfeld during which the prince was killed by Alboin, son of Audoin. He died in 563 or 565 and was succeeded by his son, Alboin, who brought the Lombards into Italia. ********************************* Our Royal, Titled, Noble and Commoner Ancestors Audoin, King of the Lombards Last Edited 4 Apr 2020 M, #16884, d. 561 Father unknown !!! there exist no info about Mother Menia Audoin, King of the Lombards married Rodelinde. - LifeSketch: Wikipedia-Elemund, father of Austrigusa Elemund (Latin: Elemundus, died 548) was king of the Gepids, an east Germanic people, during the first half of the 6th century. He may have been the son of Gunderit, himself son of Ardaric ascended by overthrowing a rival Ardariking branch. Based on archaeological evidence, István Boná believes that in the 520s or 530s Elemund must have consolidated his power in Transylvania by submitting or removing minor Gepid rulers.[1] Elemund had a son and daughter, Ustrigotho and Austrigusa, respectively; the latter was given in marriage to Wacho, the king of the Lombards, in 512. The reasons behind the marriage were multiple: on one side it protected the two kings from the threat represented by the Ostrogothic Kingdom, while on the other it reduced the danger represented to the Lombard king by Ildechis, a pretender to the Lombard throne. Wacho was eventually to remarry after Austrigusa's death, but this did not compromise the good relations existing between Lombards and Gepids.[2][3] Elemund died of illness in 548 and was succeeded by Thurisind, while the legitimate heir was forced into exile.[4][5] Ustrigotho found hospitality among the Lombards, but was killed in 552 by his host, King Audoin, as part of a plan to ease relations between Gepids and Lombards.[6] ************************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy OSTROGOTHA [Austreusa/Austrigosa] . The Origo Gentis Langobardorum names "Austrigusa filiam Gippidorum" as King Wacho's second wife[68]. The Historia Langobardorum names "Austreusa filia Gibedorum" as Wacho's second wife[69]. m as his second wife, WACHO King of the Lombards, son of ZUCHILO [Unichis] of the Lombards (-540).

He and his brothers Hermanfrid and Berthar succeeded their father Bisinus. After Hermanfrid defeated Berthar in battle, he invited King Theuderic I of Metz to help him defeat Baderic in return for half of the kingdom. Theuderic I agreed and Baderic was defeated and killed in 529. Hermanfrid became the sole king. - Title Of Nobility: leader of the Fomorians
- LifeSketch: In Irish mythology, Balor or Balar was a leader of the Fomorians, a group of malevolent supernatural beings. He is often described as a giant with a large eye that wreaks destruction when opened. Balor takes part in the Battle of Mag Tuired, and is primarily known from the tale in which he is killed by his grandson Lugh of the Tuatha Dé Danann. He has been interpreted as a personification of the scorching sun, and has also been likened to figures from other mythologies, such as the Welsh Ysbaddaden and Greek Cyclops. The name Balor may come from Common Celtic *Boleros, meaning "the flashing one".[1] In the early literature he is also referred to as Balor Béimnech (Balor the smiter),[1] Balor Balcbéimnech (Balor the strong smiter),[2] Balor Birugderc (Balor of the piercing-eye),[3] Balor mac Doit meic Néid (Balor, son of Dot son of Nét)[4] or Balor ua Néit (Balor, grandson of Nét).[5] Later forms are Balor Béimeann[6] or Balar Bemen (Ogygia, 1685),[7] and Balór na Súile Nimhe (Balor of the Evil Eye).[1] Mythological Cycle[edit] Balor first appears in the medieval texts that make up the Mythological Cycle. Family[edit] See also: Cethlenn Balor was the son of Dot son of Néit according to the Cath Maige Tuired (CMT),[4] but called Balor son of Buarainech in the list of renowned rath- and castle-builders of the world, preserved in the Book of Leinster.[8][9][a][b] Cethlenn was Balor's wife according to O'Flaherty's Ogygia (1685).[7] Cethlenn is mentioned by name in the Lebor Gabála Érenn (LGE), but not as a wife of Balor.[11] Fomorian rank[edit] The Mythological Cycle tells of a struggle between the divine Tuatha Dé Danann and the demonic Fomorians. At the behest of Bres, the Fomorians go to war against the Tuath Dé. Balor appears as champion of the Fomorians and king of the Isles (the Hebrides), while Indech mac De was the Fomorian king; the two of them leading the Fomorian army.[5][3] Balor built for Bres the fort of Rath Breisi in Connacht, according to the rath-builder list.[8][9] Death in battle[edit] See also: Lugh § Sling-stone In the ensuing battle, the second Battle of Mag Tuired, Balor kills the Tuath Dé king Nuada Airgetlám, but Balor is himself killed by his own grandson Lugh before he had a chance to use his destructive eye.[3][2] Balor's eye wreaked destruction when opened, unleashing some "power of poison",[c] but it took the strength of four warriors to lift the eyelid, by grabbing the ring (handle) attached to it.[3][13] Lugh shot a sling-stone (Old Irish: cloch as a tábaill, "stone from the sling")[d] at the eye, which came out the other side and harmed the Fomorian army. Balor's body then crushed 27 Fomorian soldiers, and his head touched the king,[vague] Indech.[3] Though not stated outright, the supposition is that Balor here is a "one-eyed giant".[15] In one account of the battle, Lugh also killed a Fomorian leader named Goll (meaning "one-eyed"), who may be a duplication of Balor.[16] The CMT says that Balor's eye gained its baleful power from exposure to the fumes from the magic potion[17] his father's druids were brewing.[3][18] O'Curry tantalizingly stated he was in possession of a manuscript with an alternate explanation on how Balor got his power, but does not elaborate due to lack of space.[19] Another description of Balor's death, dating from at least the 12th century, says he survived the loss of his eye and was chased by Lugh to Mizen Head. Lugh beheads Balor and sets the head on a large rock, which then shatters. This is said to be the origin of the headland's Irish name, Carn Uí Néit ("cairn of Nét's grandson").[1] Folktale[edit] See also: Cian and Glas Gaibhnenn Tor Mór on Tory Island, the setting of some versions of Balor's folktale In one early collected and published folktale (mid-19th century) Balor is a famous warrior on Tory Island.[20][e] Balor hears a prophecy that he would be killed by his grandson. To avoid his fate, he locks his only daughter, Ethnea (recte Eithne), in a tower to keep her from becoming pregnant. Balor goes to Donegal across the sea, and steals the magical cow of abundance Glas Gaibhnenn belonging to MacKineely (recte Cian mac Cáinte)[22][23][f] MacKineely/Cian learns he can only get the cow back when Balor is dead, and with the help of his female familiar spirit (leanan sídhe) named Biróg, enters the tower, finds Ethnea and impregnates her. Balor orders the three children born to be drowned, but one survives. The grandson is fostered by the smith who is his uncle[g] Balor eventually encounters his grandson by chance and is killed by him.[20] The unnamed grandson in the tale is recognizable as Lugh. In "Balor on Tory Island" and its variant, the child is called Lui Lavada (Lui Longhand),[25][26] and are recognized as equivalents of Lugh.[27] In the closely similar Irish text "Balor agus Mac Cionnfhaolaidh",[h][28] the child is Lugh Fadlámhach, i.e., "Lugh the long-armed".[29] In another variant, the child is called Dul Dauna,[24] which has been explained as a corruption of Ildanach "master of all knowledge", Lugh's nickname.[30] The weapon used against Balor by his grandson may be a red-hot heated iron rod,[20] or a special red spear crafted by the smith Gaivnin Gow,[25] the latter being of special interest to A. C. L. Brown who tries to establish connection to Arthurian lore.[27] Balor's eye[edit] "Balor himself may have one, two or three eyes, one of which is poisonous, incendiary, or otherwise malignant; he may have two eyes in front, one each in front and back, an extra eye in the middle of his forehead. Lug always puts the evil eye out", as summarized by Mark Scowcroft.[31] In O'Donovan's version of the folktale above, Balor has one eye in the middle of the forehead, and a deadly eye on the back of his head. It is described as both venomous, and issuing some sort of petrifying beam with powers like unto a basilisk.[32] O'Curry deplored the dissemination of such a "peasantry" version, assisted by O'Donovan printing it.[19] This second eye in the back does not preclude comparison with the one-eyed Cyclops of Greek myth.[33] Number of eyes and eye-cover[edit] In "Balor on Tory Island", Balor covers the eye in the middle of his forehead with nine leather shields, but Lugh (Lui Lavada "the Longhand") sends a red spear crafted by Gavidin Gow through all the layers.[25][i] It may be that this forehead eye should be interpreted an "extra eye in the middle of his forehead" (one of three) as Scowcroft puts it, otherwise Balor would be rendered blind most of the time. But Scowcroft does not specify the work he is alluding to. Balor is explicitly three-eyed in a version published by William Hamilton Maxwell.[35] But another version of the folktale (from County Mayo) says that Balor was single-eyed, yet it was usually covered: "He had a single eye in his forehead, a venomous fiery eye. There were always seven coverings over this eye. One by one Balar removed the coverings. With the first covering the bracken began to wither, with the second the grass became copper-coloured, with the third the woods and timber began to heat, with the fourth smoke came from the trees, with the fifth everything grew red, with the sixth it sparked. With the seventh, they were all set on fire, and the whole countryside was ablaze!"[1] Severed head and lake origin tales[edit] According to a lay in Duanaire Finn, Balor's severed head being set in the fork of an oak, and that tree which absorbed the venom became the timber-wood made into the shield of Fionn mac Cumhaill.[36] In "Balor on Tory Island" and the Irish text close to it, Lui Lavada (or Lugh) sets Balor's head on a rock, and a lake forms from the dripping pool of liquid. The Irish text does not specify location, but Curtin's tale in English Gweedore Loch (in County Donegal, local to the storyteller).[25][28] But according to a piece of folklore from County Sligo, Balor was said to have a glass through which he would look to destroy a person with his eye. He used the glass to burn and wither all of the plants at Moytura, which prompted a hero to ask how he did this. Balor, being duped by the trick, removed the glass from his eye long enough for the hero to put the eye out. The blood running from Balor's eye[j] created a lake called Suil Balra or Lochan na Súil (Lough Nasool, "lake of the eye"),[37] near Ballindoon Abbey.[38] Localization of the legend[edit] The placing of Balor's stronghold on Tory Island derives from the medieval literature, which places the Fomorians' stronghold there.[1] On Tory Island there are geological features called Dún Bhalair ("Balor's fortress") and Túr Bhalair ("Balor's tower"),[1] and a tall rock formation called Tór Mór ("great tower").[39] Although the Tory Island version of the folktale printed by O'Donovan was influential, this may have misled the public with the impression that "Tory has almost a monopoly of Balor traditions", so argues Henry Morris.[21] O'Donovan said that Balor was remembered "throughout Ireland".[6] The Balor tales involving the magic cow were also being told plentifully elsewhere, particularly "South of Ulster". Morris stated he had collected "remnants" in Farney, Monaghan c. 1900, and that these versions connected Balor and the cow Glasgaivlen with places as far afield as "south Monaghan to Rockabill Island off the coast of Dublin".[21][k] Interpretations[edit] Balor has been seen as symbolic of solar deity the old year, struggling with the solar god of the new year,[42] namely Lugh. Folklorist Alexander Haggerty Krappe subscribed to this notion,[l] and hypothesized that the additional motif of the Balor figure, (the old man representing winter and the old year), confining the woman representing the fertile earth is of ancient mythical origin. [43] Dáithí Ó hÓgáin espouses the interpretation that Balor personifies the harmful aspects of the sun, such as the scorching sun that would bring crop failure and drought.[1][44] He speculates that the

- LifeSketch: Wikipedia Basilina (died 332[1]) was the wife of Julius Constantius and the mother of Roman Emperor Julian, who in her honour gave the name Basilinopolis to a city in Bithynia (modern Pazarköy near Gemlik, in Turkey). Biography Basilina was born of Greek origin,[2][3] the daughter of Caeionius Iulianus Camenius or, more likely, of Julius Julianus, she was educated by Mardonius, a eunuch who grew up in the house of her father. She became the second wife of Julius Constantius, whom she gave Julian; Basilina died a few months after childbirth. Her sister was the mother of Procopius.[4] A Christian, initially she favoured the Arians, but gave her lands as an inheritance to the church of Ephesus. She was a relative of Bishop Eusebius of Nicomedia, her son's tutor.

In 463, Basina married Childeric I, son of Merovech and his wife Basina or Basine (c. 438 – 477) was remembered as a queen of Thuringia in the middle of the fifth century, according to much later authors such as Gregory of Tours. However, because he described this kingdom as being on the Gaulish side of the river Rhine, it is sometimes thought to be the Civitas Tungrorum. She left her husband, King Bisinus and went to Roman Gaul. She herself took the initiative to ask for the hand of Childeric I, king of the Franks, and married him. For as she herself said, "I want to have the most powerful man in the world, even if I have to cross the ocean for him". This remark of hers may have been related to Childeric's successful invasion of the Roman Empire and his attempt to settle a Frankish kingdom on Roman soil. She is the mother of the man who is remembered as the founder of the Frankish realm and modern France. She and her husband Childeric named their son Chlodovech, but he is better remembered under his Latinized name, Clovis I. According to the Gesta episcoporum Cameracensium, King Ragnachar and his brother Richar, from the area of Cambrai were related to Basina. In 463, Basina married Childeric I, son of Merovech and his wife, and had the following children: Clovis I (466 – 511). Audofleda (467 – 511). Queen of the Ostrogoths. Wife of Theodoric the Great Lanthilde (468 – ¿¿??). Aboflede (470 – ¿¿??).
- Recent historians view "Basina" of Thuringia as ahistorical, believing that she may have been from Tongeren (aka Tungrorum.): The view is that the story regarding Basinis of Thuringia being deserted by Basina for Chilperic is out character for the times. --During the reign of Childeric I, Gregory of Tours and Fredegar record that the Frankish King married the runaway wife of the King of the Thuringians, but the story may be distorted. (For example, the area of Tongeren, now in Belgium, may have been intended.[7])

- Father: Chilperic I King of the Franks at Soissons
- Birth: 562, Soissons,Kingdom of Neustria, Frankish Empire
- Also known as: Basine
- Occupation: Nun
- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia Became a nun. Basina (d. aft. 590), nun, led a revolt in the abbey of Poitiers. *************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy BASINA (-after 590). Gregory of Tours records that the sister of Clovis was "tricked by Fredegund's servants and persuaded into entering a nunnery…where she remains to this day"[338], dated to late 580 from the context, although it is not certain that this relates to Basina. Gregory names Basina as the daughter of King Chilperich and Audovera whom her father confined in a nunnery in Poitiers, when recording that in 584 her father considered sending her to Spain as the bride for Recarred, in place of her half-sister[339]. Gregory also records that she became a nun at the convent of Sainte-Croix in Poitiers, but was involved in the revolt against abbess Leubovera[340].

- Father: Pippin der Ältere Maior DOMUS
- Mother: Iduberga DE NIVELLES
- Birth: ABT 622, Kingdom of Austrasia, Frankish Empire
- LifeSketch: from Wikipedia Saint Bavo of Ghent (also known as Bavon, Allowin, Bavonius, and Baaf) (622–659) is a Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox saint. Life Bavo was born near Liège, Belgium, to a Frankish noble family that gave him the name Allowin. His father was Pippin of Landen, the Mayor of the Palace of Austrasia. Wild as a youth and selfish, he was known to have sold servants to local nobles as slaves.[citation needed] He contracted a beneficial marriage, and had a daughter through it. He was a soldier; however, he led an undisciplined and disorderly life. Shortly after the death of his wife, Bavo decided to reform himself upon hearing a sermon preached by a monk, Saint Amand. Bavo was struck after the sermon at the emptiness of material objects and donated his wealth to the poor after he converted to Christianity at Amand's convent. Bavo traveled with Amand for some time in his missionary work through France and Flanders. On one occasion, Bavo met a man whom he had sold years before. Wishing to atone for this earlier conduct, Bavo had the man lead him by chain to the town jail. He built an abbey on his grounds and became a monk. He distributed his belongings to the poor and lived as a recluse, first in a hollow tree, later in a cell in the forest near the Abbey. He died at St. Bavo's Abbey in Ghent, in today's Belgium. Veneration Bavo is the patron saint of Ghent and Lauwe, Belgium and Haarlem, the Netherlands. He is most often shown in Christian art as a knight with a sword and falcon. The most popular scene is the moment of his conversion, which has many stories attached to it. Because he is so often show with a falcon, he came to be considered the patron saint of falconry. In Ghent, in medieval times, taxes were paid on October 1, and for this reason Bavo is often shown holding a purse or money bag. According to Rodulfus Glaber, the city of Bamberg is named after him, with Bamberg meaning 'Mount of Bavo'. His feast day in the Orthodox Church is October 1. Several churches are dedicated to him, including: •Saint Bavo Cathedral, in Ghent •Sint-Bavokerk and Cathedral of Saint Bavo, both in Haarlem •Sint-Bavokerk in Heemstede and Lauwe •Saint Bavo Church and School, in Mishawaka, Indiana •Sint-Bavokerk in Wilrijk His picture is also part of the Coat of Arms of the Antwerp suburb Wilrijk. www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=555

- Birth: 400, Åsgård, Troms, Norway
- Also known as: Bedwig (Bedvig; of SCEAF
- Title Of Nobility: Emperor Of Europe, King of Asgard
Bedwig engendró a Hwala, Hwala engendró a Hadra. - LifeSketch: Begga was the daughter of Pippin von Landen and Itta von Nivelles, sister of Bavo von Gent and Gertrud von Nivelles, according to the description of her merits from around 700. Around 635 she became the wife of Ansegisel, the son of Bishop Arnulf von Metz and the mother of Pippin von Heristal, thus the ancestor of Charlemagne. After her husband was murdered, she went on a pilgrimage to the seven pilgrimage churches in Rome; this was the first time that the number seven, which then became a tradition, appears for the pilgrimage to Rome. After her return, Begga founded the monastery with the seven chapels in Andenne on the Meuse, which were supposed to correspond to the seven main churches of Rome, around 692 with the help of her sisters Gertrud and nuns from Nivelles; Birds are said to have shown her the place in a dream. Begga was buried in her monastery in Andenne.
