- Birth: 295 BC
- Title Of Nobility: Edile curule
- LifeSketch: Publius Claudius Pulcher (died 249 BC/246 BC) was a Roman politician. Son of Appius Claudius Caecus, Publius was the first of the Claudii to be given the cognomen "Pulcher" ("handsome"). He was also the father of Appius Claudius Pulcher, consul in 212 BC. Curule aedile in 253 BC, as consul in 249 he was given command of the Roman fleet during the First Punic War. He lost the Battle of Drepana against the Carthaginians after ignoring a bad omen. According to Valerius Maximus, Suetonius and Cicero, when the sacred chickens refused to eat, Claudius threw them into the sea, saying: "Since they do not wish to eat, let them drink!" (Latin "Bibant, quoniam esse nollent"). He was recalled to Rome and ordered to appoint a dictator; his nomination of his subordinate Marcus Claudius Glicia was overruled. He was tried for incompetence and impiety, avoiding capital or corporal punishment due to double jeopardy and was instead fined a 120,000 assēs, 1,000 for each ship Rome had lost in the battle against Carthage. He died soon afterwards, possibly by suicide.

- Father: Roger DE PYVELESDON
- Birth: 1180, Newport, Shropshire, England
- Also known as: Richard de Puleston
- LifeSketch: Note; Puleston used to be called Pyvelesdon, Salop which is a village just outside of Newport, Shropshire Salop is the same as Shropshire which comes from the Old English Scrobbesbyrigscir, the shire with Shrewsbury at its head. The Normans found the Old English for both Shrewsbury and Shropshire; Scrobbesbyrig and Scrobbesbyrigscir difficult to pronounce; so they softened them to Salopsberia and Salopescira. Salop became the shortened form of both.

- LifeSketch: Sir Roger Puleston Birth: 1230; Death: "The genealogical history of this ancient family [Puleston] is clear and complete. From the time of Edward I., when the Pulestons first settled in Flintshire, Emral, without interruption, has continued to be their principal seat. Through the long course of nearly 600 years the male line has not been quite unbroken, but the succession of inheritance in the blood of the first Sir Roger de Pyvelisdon, who formed his home at Emral «i»circa«/i» A.D. 1284--«i»Lewys Dwnn«/i»assigns the date 8th Edward I., or 1280--has continued intact. Roger, Richard, and John, have been the chief Christian names in this family. "Sir Roger de Pyvelisdon about the above date, when, after the fall of the last Prince Llewelyn (A.D. 1282), the government of Wales was being remodelled, the laws placed under new administration, and revenue collected by commissioners from the English king, was appionted by Edward I. to the responsible office of presiding over the fiscal administration of North Wales. It had been determined to collect the fifteenth of the moveable property of the Welsh for the purposes of the Government. In the commotions which ensued, Sir Roger of Emral was executed,--a fate, says Sir Samuel R. Meyrick, that 'attended all his assistants who had attempted to enforce the payment of this tribute.' "Sir Roger, who bore on his escutcheon 'sa., three mullets arg.,' had «i»m«/i». Jane (according to note in «Dwnn«/, and not Agnes as stated by some), dau. of David le Clerk, of Malpas, and left by her a son,--[Sir Richard Puleston]" (1) The Pulestons derived their name from the vill or manor of Pilston or Puleston, near Newport, Salop, where they were settled in the reign of Henry III, and continued to hold land at least until 1433. Sir ROGER DE PULESTON (d. 1294) is believed to have been the first to establish himself at Emral in Maelor Saesneg; he is described as 'de Embers-hall' in 1283; and the following year 'foresta domini Rogeri de Pyvylston' occurs as a boundary in a deed of sale of lands in Gwillington («i»Arch. Camb.«», 1888, 32, 293). On 20 March 1293/4 he was appointed by Edward I the first sheriff of Anglesey (Cal. Welsh Rolls«/i», 283), and as such was responsible for levying the odious tax of a fifteenth on moveables which precipitated the revolt led by »Madog ap Llywelyn (q.v.) «in the autumn of 1294. At the height of the rising the hated sheriff was seized and hanged by the Anglesey Welshmen during a sudden raid on the borough of Caernarvon. In all probability Master Richard de Puleston, who was sheriff of Caernarvonshire, 1284-95 (he was appointed on the same day as Sir Roger), was of the same family, although the pedigrees do not help to establish his exact identity. ROBERT PULESTON, son of Richard Puleston of Emral (alive 1382/3 - B. M. Harley MS. 1971), was a witness in the celebrated Scrope-Grosvenor trial of 1836, together with «Owain Glyn Dwr (q.v.) , whose sister Lowry he married. For his part in the rebellion Robert's estates in the counties of Chester, Salop, and Flint were forfeited («i»Cal. Pat. Rolls, Henry IV«, 1399-1401, 370), but were later restored. Robert's grandson, ROGER PULESTON (d. 1469), whose father, JOHN PULESTON (will proved 17 April 1444), had m. - ANOINTED QUEEN OF ENGLAND: Already King, Edgar organised a second coronation on 11 May 973 at Bath, perhaps to bolster his claim to be ruler of all of Britain. - ACCUSED OF MURDERING HER STEP-SON, KING EDWARD: On 18 March 978, while visiting Ælfthryth at Corfe Castle, King Edward was killed by servants of the Queen, leaving the way clear for Æthelred to be installed as king.
- REGENT QUEEN OF ENGLAND: Due to Æthelred's youth, Ælfthryth served as regent for her son until his coming of age in 984., BET 978 AND 984, Corfe Castle, Dorset, England
- ÆLFTHRYTH NOT THE SAME AS ÆTHELFLÆD: Æthelflæd was the 1st wife of Edgar the Peaceful and daughter of Ordmaer, Ealdorman of the East Anglians; Ælfthryth was the 3rd wife of Edgar the Peaceful, the widow of Æthelwald, Ealdorman of East Anglia, and the daughter of Ordgar, Ealdorman of Devon in the West
- LifeSketch: ÆLFTHRYTH NOT THE SAME AS ÆTHELFLAED PLEASE TAKE CARE NOT TO CONFUSE THEM Ælfthryth (also Alfrida, Elfrida or Elfthryth) was an English queen, the third wife of King Edgar of England. Ælfthryth was the first king's wife known to have been crowned and anointed as Queen of the Kingdom of England. Mother of King Æthelred the Unready, she was a powerful political figure. She was possibly linked to the murder of her stepson King Edward the Martyr and appeared as a stereotypical bad queen and evil stepmother in many medieval histories. Ælfthryth was the daughter of Ealdorman Ordgar. Her mother was a member of the royal family of Wessex. The family's power lay in the west of Wessex. Ordgar was buried in Exeter and his son Ordwulf founded, or refounded, Tavistock Abbey. Ælfthryth was first married to Æthelwald, son of Æthelstan Half-King as recorded by Byrhtferth of Ramsey in his Life of Saint Oswald of Worcester. Later accounts, such as that preserved by William of Malmesbury, add vivid detail of unknown reliability. According to William, the beauty of Ordgar's daughter Ælfthryth was reported to King Edgar. Edgar, looking for a Queen, sent Æthelwald to see Ælfthryth, ordering him "to offer her marriage [to Edgar] if her beauty were really equal to report." When she turned out to be just as beautiful as was said, Æthelwald married her himself and reported back to Edgar that she was quite unsuitable. Edgar was eventually told of this, and decided to repay Æthelwald's betrayal in like manner. He said that he would visit the poor woman, which alarmed Æthelwald. He asked Ælfthryth to make herself as unattractive as possible for the king's visit, but she did the opposite. Edgar, quite besotted with her, killed Æthelwald during a hunt. The historical record does not record the year of Æthelwald's death, let alone its manner. No children of Æthelwald and Ælfthryth are known. Edgar had two children before he married Ælfthryth, both of uncertain legitimacy. Edward was probably the son of Æthelflæd, and Eadgifu, later known as Saint Edith of Wilton, was the daughter of Wulfthryth. Sound political reasons encouraged the match between Edgar, whose power base was centred in Mercia, and Ælfthryth, whose family were powerful in Wessex. In addition to this, and her link with the family of Æthelstan Half-King, Ælfthryth also appears to have been connected to the family of Ælfhere, Ealdorman of Mercia. Edgar married Ælfthryth in either 964 or 965. In 966 Ælfthryth gave birth to a son who was named Edmund. In King Edgar's charter (S 745) regranting privileges to New Minster, Winchester that same year, the infant Edmund is called "clito legitimus" (legitimate ætheling), and appears before Edward in the list of witnesses. Edmund died young, circa 970, but in 968 Ælfthryth had given birth to a second son who was called Æthelred. King Edgar organised a second coronation on 11 May 973 at Bath, perhaps to bolster his claim to be ruler of all of Britain. Here Ælfthryth was also crowned and anointed, granting her a status higher than any recent queen. The only model of a queen's coronation was that of Judith of Flanders, but this had taken place outside England. In the new rite, the emphasis lay on her role as protector of religion and the nunneries in the realm. She took a close interest in the well-being of several abbeys, and as overseer of Barking Abbey she deposed and later reinstated the abbess. Ælfthryth played a large role as forespeca, or advocate, in at least seven legal cases. As such, she formed a key part of the Anglo-Saxon legal system as a mediator between the individual and the crown, which was increasingly viewing its role in the courts as a symbol of its authority as protector of its subjects. Ælfthryth's actions as forespeca were largely for the benefit of female litigants, and her role as a mediator shows the possibilities for women to have legal and political power in late Anglo-Saxon England. Queen dowager Edgar died in 975 leaving two young sons, Edward and Æthelred. Edward was almost an adult, and his successful claim for the throne was supported by many key figures including Archbishops Dunstan and Oswald and the brother of Ælfthryth's first husband, Æthelwine, Ealdorman of East Anglia. Supporting the unsuccessful claim of Æthelred were his mother, the Queen dowager, Bishop Æthelwold of Winchester, and Ælfhere, Ealdorman of Mercia. On 18 March 978, while visiting Ælfthryth at Corfe Castle, King Edward was killed by servants of the Queen, leaving the way clear for Æthelred to be installed as king. Edward was soon considered a martyr, and later medieval accounts blamed Ælfthryth for his murder. According to the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, King Edward was murdered at Corfe Castle in 978. As the king developed into a cult figure, a body of literature grew up around his murder, at first implying and then accusing his step-mother, Queen Aelfthryth, of being responsible. The 12th century monastic chronicle the Liber Eliensis went so far as to accuse her of being a witch, claiming that she had murdered not only the king, but also Abbot Brihtnoth of Ely. Queen regent Due to Æthelred's youth, Ælfthryth served as regent for her son until his coming of age in 984. By then her earlier allies Æthelwold and Ælfhere had died, and Æthelred rebelled against his old advisers, preferring a group of younger nobility. Later life Ælfthryth disappears from the list of charter witnesses from around 983 to 993, when she reappears in a lower position. She remained an important figure, being responsible for the care of Æthelred's children by his first wife, Ælfgifu. Æthelred's eldest son, Æthelstan Ætheling, prayed for the soul of the grandmother "who brought me up" in his will in 1014. Although her reputation was damaged by the murder of her stepson, Ælfthryth was a religious woman, taking an especial interest in monastic reform when Queen. In about 986 she founded Wherwell Abbey in Hampshire as a Benedictine nunnery, and late in life she retired there. In about 979, Ælfthryth had founded Amesbury Abbey. The date is given by the Chronicle of Melrose appropriate. Antonia Gransden comments: "In their patronage of the monks both Cnut and Edward the Confessor were supported by their queens, Emma and Edith, who were worthy successors of Edgar's queen, Ælfthryth, as patronesses of the religious." She died at Wherwell on 17 November 999, 1000 or 1001. FROM: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86lfthryth_(wife_of_Edgar)

Born about 945 died Nov 17 1000/1001; married first Æthelwald, then married King Edgar in 965/966 (his 3rd wife) they had 2 sons: Edmund(who died young) and Æthelred.
- LifeSketch: Æthelflæd was the daughter of Ordmær, Ealdorman of the East Anglians and his wife Ealda, estimated to have been born about 941. Æthelflæd was also known as Æthelflæd the Fair and Æthelflæd the White. She is likely the noble woman Æthelflæd mentioned in Goscelin's "Life of Saint Edith of Wilton" and by John of Worcester and William of Malmesbury in their histories as Æthelflæd, surnamed Candida or Eneda "the White" or "White Duck" Æthelflæd is believed to have married Edgar the Peaceable between 957 and 959, before he became King of England, when he ruled Mercia. Edgar'd oldest son Edward is believed by most to be the son of Æthelflæd. Edward is believed to have been in his teens when he succeeded his father in 975, and was likely born about 962, right during the time period when history says Edgar was married to Æthelflæd . Very little is known about Æthelflæd with certainty. It is likely that Æthelflæd and Edgar were truly married, however, some believe she was only a concubine. This information was likely circulated by Edgar's third wife Ælfthryth to promote her own children as Edgar's legitimate heirs, and increase their claim to the throne. Edward was Edgar's acknowledged oldest son and witnessed many charters in which he was identified as his son. While he was never identified specifically as his legitimate son he was not identified as illegitimate either. It might simply be that there was no need at the time to indicate his legitimacy for it was known and accepted. Ælfthryth's son was identified as legitimate, however, Ælfthryth had been previously married, it might have been necessary for Edgar to positively claim the child to insure there would be no questions about his later claim to the throne. No more is heard about Æthelflæd, it is believed she died shortly after Edward's birth, sometime before 964, when Edgar began another questionable relationship with Wulfthryth of Wilton. ------------------------------------------------------ Aethelflaed (Æthelflæd) the Fair died c. 964 Father – Ealdorman Ordmaer Mother – Ealda Spouse – King Edgar Children – Edward Aethelflaed the Fair was born to Ealdorman Ordmaer and Ealda. - LifeSketch: "A treacherous lioness butchered the governors who had been left to give fuller voice and strength to the endeavors of Roman rule." -- the monk Gildas in his 6th century work, "On the Ruin and Conquest of Britain" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BOADICEA, AN ODE 1 WHEN the British warrior queen, 2 Bleeding from the Roman rods, 3 Sought with an indignant mien, 4 Counsel of her country's gods, 2. 5 Sage beneath a spreading oak 6 Sat the Druid, hoary chief, 7 Ev'ry burning word he spoke, 8 Full of rage and full of grief. 3. 9 Princess! if our aged eyes 10 Weep upon thy matchless wrongs, 11 'Tis because resentment ties 12 All the terrors of our tongues. 4. 13 Rome shall perish — write that word 14 In the blood that she has spilt; 15 Perish hopeless and abhorr'd, 16 Deep in ruin as in guilt. 5. 17 Rome for empire far renown'd, 18 Tramples on a thousand states, 19 Soon her pride shall kiss the ground — 20 Hark! the Gaul is at her gates. 6. 21 Other Romans shall arise, 22 Heedless of a soldier's name, 23 Sounds, not arms, shall win the prize, 24 Harmony the path to fame. 7. 25 Then the progeny that springs 26 From the forests of our land, 27 Arm'd with thunder, clad with wings, 28 Shall a wider world command. 8. 29 Regions Caesar never knew, 30 Thy posterity shall sway, 31 Where his eagles never flew, 32 None invincible as they. 9. 33 Such the bards prophetic words, 34 Pregnant with celestial fire, 35 Bending as he swept the chords 36 Of his sweet but awful lyre. 10. 37 She with all a monarch's pride, 38 Felt them in her bosom glow, 39 Rush'd to battle, fought and died, 40 Dying, hurl'd them at the foe. 11. 41 Ruffians, pittiless as proud, 42 Heav'n awards the vengeance due, 43 Empire is on us bestow'd, 44 Shame and ruin wait for you. This statue is Boudicca's legacy and it continues to give the people of the 21st century inspiration, hope and serve as propaganda. Today Lots of people have painted pictures of Boudicca and they all look different. This is because everybody seems to have their own opinion about the type of person she was.

- Father: Sachell BALB of the Saxons
- Birth: 291, Britton, Anglia
- Also known as: Carinna Cais Dubh (of the curly black hair)
- Title Of Nobility: Queen of Ireland
- LifeSketch: Cairenn Chasdub; Caireann ("curly-black (hair)") was, according to medieval Irish legend and historical tradition, the daughter of Sachell Balb, king of the Saxons, the second wife of the Irish High King Eochaid Mugmedón, and the mother of Niall of the Nine Hostages. When she was pregnant with Niall, Eochaid's first wife Mongfind was jealous and made her do heavy labour, hoping to make her miscarry. She gave birth beside a well as she was drawing water, and, out of fear of Mongfind, left the baby exposed to the birds. But the child was rescued and brought up by a poet called Torna. When the child, Niall, grew up he returned to Tara and relieved his mother of her labour, and went on to become High King himself. Given Niall's dates (he is traditionally supposed to have died around the turn of the 5th century, although modern historians place him half a century later), it is anachronistic for his mother to have been a Saxon, but O'Rahilly argues that the name Cairenn is derived from the Latin name Carina, and that it is plausible that she might have been a Romano-Briton. Indeed, Geoffrey Keating describes her not as a Saxon but as the "daughter of the king of Britain"

- LifeSketch: Gefion was worshipped as a Godess as was her father in law "ODIN and his God wife Frigg or Frea these Kings & Queens wewre worshipped as Dieties all over Scandinavia and Europe many Humans and Animals were sacrificed to these Gods,The Greek and Roman Gods Mercury and Hercules were considered as the same beings as these Danish and Swedish Gods. Gefion went to Jotunheim, and bore four sons to a giant, and transformed them into a yoke of oxen. She yoked them to a plough, and broke out the land into the ocean right opposite to Odins, this land was called Sealand, and there she afterwards settled and dwelt. She was sent by Odin across the sound to the north to discover new countries. She given a ploughgate of land by King Gylve. She plucked Zealand from Sweden and left the Lake Malaren. The Gefion Fountain (Danish: Gefionspringvandet) is a large fountain on the harbour front in Copenhagen, Denmark. It features a large-scale group of oxen pulling a plow and being driven by the Norse goddess Gefjon. It is located in Nordre Toldbod area next to Kastellet and immediately south of Langelinie. Main article: Gefjun The Gefion fountain The fountain depicts the mythical story of the creation of the island of Zealand on which Copenhagen is located. The legend appears in Ragnarsdrápa, a 9th-century Skaldic poem recorded in the 13th century Prose Edda, and in Ynglinga saga as recorded in Snorri Sturluson's 13th century Heimskringla. According to Ynglinga saga, the Swedish king Gylfi promised Gefjun the territory she could plow in a night. She turned her four sons into oxen, and the territory they plowed out of the earth was then thrown into the Danish sea between Scania and the island of Fyn. The hole became a lake called Lögrinn and Leginum (locative). Snorri identifies the lake Löginn, as the lake of Old Sigtuna west of Stockholm, i.e., Lake Mälaren, an identification that he returns to later in the Saga of Olaf the Holy. The same identification of Löginn/Leginum as Mälaren appears in Ásmundar saga kappabana, where it is the lake by Agnafit (modern Stockholm), and also in Knýtlinga saga. In spite of Snorri's identification, tourist information about the fountain identifies the resultant lake as Vänern[1] ,[2][3][4] Sweden's largest lake, citing the fact that modern maps show that Zealand and the lake resemble each other in size and shape. Snorri, however, was well acquainted with Vänern as he had visited Västergötland in 1219. When he referred to this lake he called it Vænir.[5] Gefion is associated with virginity. Her name means "The Giving".

- Father: Achaeus SON OF SELEUCUS I NICATOR
- Birth: 292 BC, Antioch Syrian Arab Republic
- Also known as: Greek: Λαοδίκη
- Title Of Nobility: Queen consort of the Seleucid Empire
- LifeSketch: Family and early life Laodice was a daughter of the Seleucid King Seleucus IV Philopator and his wife, Laodice IV. She had two brothers: Antiochus and Demetrius I Soter.[1] She was born and raised in the Seleucid Empire. First marriage The Antigonid king of Macedon, Perseus had experienced considerable diplomatic successes in the Seleucid Empire, Greece and on the island of Rhodes.[2] As a result of his diplomatic actions, he married Laodice, either in 178 BC or 177 BC, making Laodice queen of Macedon. Not much is known on her time as queen or her relationship with Perseus. However, Laodice bore Perseus at least four children: Alexander, Philip, Andriscus (?) and a daughter.[3] After a series of clashes with the Roman Republic, Perseus was finally decisively defeated by the Romans under Lucius Aemilius Paullus at the Battle of Pydna in 168 BC.[3] Subsequently, Macedonia became a Roman province, while Perseus and his children became Roman captives and were taken to Rome, where they were shown as part of the triumph of Lucius Aemilius Paullus. At sometime between 165 and 162 BC, Perseus died, still in captivity.[2] Little is known of the subsequent fate of the children of Perseus and Laodice. Only Alexander, who was still a child when Perseus was defeated by the Romans, is mentioned again. According to Livy, he was kept in custody at Alba Fucens, together with his father. After reaching his majority, Alexander became skillful in Toreutics, learned the Latin language, and became a public notary.[4][5][6] The final defeat and captivity of Perseus and their children was the end of the Antigonid rule over Macedonia and its territories. Life after Perseus Unlike her husband, Laodice seems to have avoided captivity in Rome, and instead appears to have lived for much of the 160s in the court of her uncle, Antiochus IV Epiphanes and her half-brother Antiochus V Eupator. After their deaths, her brother Demetrius I Soter became Seleucid King. Demetrius I ruled from 161 BC to 150 BC. There is a possibility that Demetrius I married Laodice, but this is not certain.[7] However, what is certain is that Demetrius' wife was named Laodice, and was the mother of his three sons Demetrius II Nicator, Antiochus VII Sidetes [7] and Antigonus. Around 160 BC, Demetrius I offered Laodice to their maternal first cousin Ariarathes V of Cappadocia in marriage, which Ariarathes V declined.[3] In 158 BC, there was civil war in Cappadocia between Ariarathes V and his brother, Orophernes of Cappadocia. Demetrius, still upset of Ariarathes’ refusal, supported the rebel. However, by 156 BC, Ariarathes V had emerged as the victor of the Cappadocian civil war. By the summer of 152 BC, a usurper by the name of Alexander Balas, who claimed to be the son of Antiochus IV, was gaining support and momentum in his bid for the Seleucid throne. In a military campaign against Alexander Balas near Antioch, Demetrius I was defeated. In 150 BC, Laodice was killed along with Demetrius I. The Seleucid Empire (/sɪˈljuːsɪd/;[6] Ancient Greek: Βασιλεία τῶν Σελευκιδῶν, Basileía tōn Seleukidōn) was a Hellenistic state ruled by the Seleucid dynasty which existed from 312 BC to 63 BC; Seleucus I Nicator founded it following the division of the Macedonian Empire vastly expanded by Alexander the Great.[7][8][9][10] Seleucus received Babylonia (321 BC) and from there expanded his dominions to include much of Alexander's near-eastern territories. At the height of its power, the Empire included central Anatolia, Persia, the Levant, Mesopotamia, and what is now Kuwait, Afghanistan, and parts of Pakistan and Turkmenistan. The Seleucid Empire became a major center of Hellenistic culture – it maintained the preeminence of Greek customs where a Greek political elite dominated, mostly in the urban areas.[10][11][12][13] The Greek population of the cities who formed the dominant elite were reinforced by immigration from Greece.[10][11] Seleucid expansion into Anatolia and Greece halted abruptly in the early 2nd century BC after decisive defeats at the hands of the Roman army. Seleucid attempts to defeat their old enemy Ptolemaic Egypt were frustrated by Roman demands. Having come into conflict in the East (305 BC) with Chandragupta Maurya of the Maurya Empire, Seleucus I entered into an agreement with Chandragupta whereby he ceded vast territory west of the Indus, including the Hindu Kush, modern-day Afghanistan, and the Balochistan province of Pakistan and offered his daughter in marriage to the Maurya Emperor to formalize the alliance. Antiochus III the Great attempted to project Seleucid power and authority into Hellenistic Greece, but his attempts were thwarted by the Roman Republic and by Greek allies such as the Kingdom of Pergamon, culminating in a Seleucid defeat at the 190 BC Battle of Magnesia. In the subsequent Treaty of Apamea in 188 BC, the Seleucids were compelled to pay costly war reparations and relinquished claims to territories west of the Taurus Mountains. The Parthians under Mithridates I of Parthia conquered much of the remaining eastern part of the Seleucid Empire in the mid-2nd century BC, while the independent Greco-Bactrian Kingdom continued to flourish in the northeast. However, the Seleucid kings continued to rule a rump state from Syria until the invasion by Armenian king Tigranes the Great in 83 BC and their ultimate overthrow by the Roman general Pompey in 63 BC.

- LifeSketch: Penarddun is a figure in Welsh mythology, the wife of Llŷr. The Second Branch of the Mabinogi names Bran, Branwen, and Manawydan as her children by Llŷr, and ascribes to her two additional sons by Euroswydd: Nisien, a good man, and Efnysien, a conniving troublemaker.[1] The Welsh Triads call Llŷr one of the Three Exalted Prisoners of Britain for his captivity at Euroswydd's hands; this likely refers to a lost tradition of the birth of Penarddun's younger sons.[2] The Mabinogi names Penarddun as a daughter of the ancestor Beli Mawr, but the genealogy is confused; it is possible she was meant to be his sister rather than daughter.[3] The name Penarddun can be translated as "Chief Beauty" or "Most Fair" (Welsh pen "head, chief, foremost" + arddun "fair, beautiful (of a girl)".[4] *from Wikipedia* PENARDUN.
