- LifeSketch: The History of the Vernon Family The Palatine Earls of Chester 1071-c.1230The Palatine Earldom of Chester is now vested in the British Crown, and is traditionally a title held by the Prince of Wales. In 1071, William the Conqueror made his nephew, Hugh Earl of Chester, giving him the whole of the county Palatine of Chester "...to hold as freely by the sword as he [the King] himself held the kingdom of England by the crown" As Count or Earl Palatine he had extraordinary authority within his provinces - this was seen as necessary due to the need to defend the Marches from the incursions of the Welsh - and as such he had his own Court and hereditary barons who each had their own jurisdiction, and power of "life and death" - legend has it that the Barons of Malpas, (later the Egertons from whom the Wedgwoods of Harracles etc. descend) were particularly prone to sentence the latter. The hereditary Barons created by Hugh are as follows, after the reversion of the Earldom with the crown, these dignities became only titular. horizontal rule The "Vernon Family" story begins back around 888-906 AD when the Vikings under "Marching Rollo" invaded and conquered Normandy including the ancient town of Vernon. The Town dates back to Gallo-Roman times and is located in a beautiful valley on both sides of the Seine River, 30 some miles northwest of Paris. Rollo's son, William Longsword, became Duke of Normany in 925. The family became very powerful and wealthy holding many large estates in Normandy. Richard de Reviers, the first Vernon, was a good and loyal officer serving the Duke of Normandy, William the Bastard, future William the Conqueror. He was such a good and loyal officer, that in 1050 he was given the little town of Vernon-sur-Seine as a reward. From then on, Richard de Reviers and all his descendants to come, took the name of their town for their name. The VERNON family was born. Richard de Reviers changed has name to Richard de Vernon. Sixteen years later, William the Conqueror invaded England in 1066 at least two of his high ranking officers were Vernon's. Richard de Vernon definitely took part in the invasion. Many others of the family also accompanied him. For the service more great estates in Normandy and England were granted to the Vernon family and its members were ranked among the wealthiest and most powerful in both counties. Several members became Barons and were Knighted. Shortly following the Battle of Hastings the area round Chester County, England became a Norman stronghold. William the Conqueror awarded Chester to his nephew Hugh Lupus in 1070. Hugh immediately appointed four great Barons, one of them being Sir Richard De Vernon Baron De Shipbrook. He and his brother Sir Walter were both at the Battle of Hastings. Their Father was Sir William De Vernon of Vernon castle in Normandy. Prior to the Norman Conquest there were no surnames used in England. Many of the families coming from Normandy eventually changed their names to a more Anglo-Saxon name. The Vernon's, however, made no such change.

- LifeSketch: About Richard de Vernon, seigneur de Reviers William's son Richard de Vernon, Seigneur de Reviers, Vernon, and Néhou was known to have fought at the Battle of Hastings along with his brother Walter, for which he was rewarded with lands in Cheshire under the patronage of Hugh d'Avranches, 1st Earl of Chester. Richard settled at Shipbrook, about 2 miles to the south east of Northwich and was created Baron of Shipbrooke, he was appointed as one of the eight barons under the Norman administration of Cheshire. Richard de Verno married Adzelia, the daughter of William Peverel, who was rumoured to be an illegitimate son of William the Conqueror. He was a faithful adviser of the Conqueror's youngest son, King Henry I, and aided him in his struggle against his brother Robert Curthose for control of the English throne. He witnessed more than 20 of Henry's charters & royal writs, in several different places, and sometimes as the only witness. By the time of his death in 1107, de Vernon had risen to become one of the richest and most powerful barons in England. Henry I rewarded him with several large grants of land, these included the honours of Plympton in Devon, Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight and Christchurch in Hampshire. In addition to these he held estates in Normandy in the Cotentin and he had also acquired the manors of Crowell in Oxfordshire and Woolley in Berkshire on his marriage. Richard died on 8th September 1107 and was buried at his foundation of the Abbey of Montebourg in Normandy. Following his death his loyalty was remarked upon by the saintly Anselm of Canterbury. He left 3 sons, Badwin de Vernon, who became 1st Earl of Dorrset, William de Vernon, Lord of Vernon, who commanded a company of perhaps the first Welsh archers to be used in the Norman wars, and was later a travelling judge with County Geoffrey Plantagenet in Normandy. The third son was Hugh de Vernon, Baron of Shipbrook, from whom the Shipbrook Vernons descend. - LifeSketch: Beatrix de Vesci of Alnwick Castle, was an 11th-century medieval noble lady of the house de Vesci. She was the daughter and sole heir of Baron Ivo de Vesci and his wife, Alda. One of the richest heiresses of her time, Beatrix was the first wife of Eustace Fitz John, also known as Eustacius fitz John de Burgo, Constable of Chestershire and Knaresborough. According to Dugdale, Beatrix had two sons, William and Geoffrey. However, it often is said that she died during the birth of her first and only son, William de Vesci. William took his mother’s surname and would become the ancestor of the de Vesci baronial house. He served as Sheriff of Northumberland from 1157 to 1170, and Sheriff of Lancashire from 1166 to 1170. Upon the death of Eustace Fitz John, his lands passed to his son William by consent of King Henry II. Beatrix's grandson Eustace de Vesci was one of the Surety Barons of Magna Carta. -- Wikiwand: Beatrix de Vesci

- Mother: Thiberge DE TROYES
- Birth: 941, Clery Sur Somme, Somme, Picardie, France
Google translation: "For a long time, he was considered the father of Amédée de Belley, (around 940 - after 980, another putative father of Humbert I of Savoy) and of Willa of Vienne; indeed, a manuscript written by d´Hozier in 1675, l 'Genealogical history of the House of Savoy specifies that "the charters which establish the descendants of the House of Savoy of the kings of Provence are in the Cartularies of Saint-Maurice in Vienna", which led to make Amédée a descendant of kings of Provence, and more precisely a son of Charles-Constantin, but this assertion is now questioned, the charters in question not having been found in the Cartular of Saint-Maurice. - LifeSketch: Descendente do Rei Baltha. Príncipe do Sangue Real Baltha. (Cf. Souto, Dom Saul Palma e Dornelles, Homero Corrêa Pires. - Title Of Nobility: Prince of the West Goths
- LifeSketch: King of the Visi-Goths (Tervingi) 218-249, vorst der Westgoten Led the 'Second Invasion' across the Danube. Kniva and his Goths cross the Danube to raid districts of Moesia and Thrace - the first occasion in which the Goths appear in any detail in the historical record. Kniva is surprised by Roman Emperor Decius while besieging Nicopolis on the Danube. The Goths flee through the Balkans, but double back and surprise the Romans near Beroë (modern Stara Zagora). Then they attack Philippopolis (modern Plovdiv in Bulgaria), which falls into their hands. Its commander, Titus Julius Priscus, declares himself emperor under Gothic protection. The siege has so exhausted the numbers and resources of the Goths that they offer to surrender their booty and prisoners on condition of being allowed to retire unmolested. But Decius refuses to entertain their proposals and engages them at the Battle of Abrittus. Decius' army is annihilated and the emperor is slain. The Goths are eventually defeated by Aemilianus, Roman governor of Moesia Superior and Pannonia but are allowed (and even helped) to leave the empire.
