She had no children with him. Radegund was noted for her almsgiving.[3]
- LifeSketch: St. Radegunda, MEROVINGIAN QUEEN WRITTEN BY: The Editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica Alternative Titles: Sainte Radegonde, St. Radegund, St. Radegundis St. Radegunda, also spelled Radegund or Radegundis, French Sainte Radegonde, (died August 13, 587, Poitiers [France]; feast day August 13), queen of the Merovingian king Chlotar I, who left her husband to become a nun and later founded a monastery at Poitiers. She was one of the first of the Merovingian saints. A Thuringian princess, Radegunda was captured about 531 by Chlotar I during an expedition against the Thuringians. She was educated in letters at his court, and, although she is said to have hoped from an early age to be a martyr, she eventually married the king. Her piety and continence were such, however, that he complained of having a nun rather than a wife for his queen. Despite her rank, she displayed great humility, tending the poor and the sick. Gregory of Tours reported in his History of the Franks that Chlotar “unjustly” killed Radegunda’s brother. Perhaps this was the occasion for her asking Médard, bishop of Noyon, to allow her to become a nun. Médard finally agreed, and she entered a convent; later she founded the nunnery of the Holy Cross at Poitiers. It was said that Radegunda performed numerous miracles and that Christ appeared to her a year before her death. ******************************** Foundation for Medieval Genealogy RADEGUND (Erfurt 518-Poitiers 587, bur Poitiers, basilique Sainte-Marie-hors-les-Murs). Gregory of Tours names Radegund as the orphaned daughter of Berthar[30]. The Vitæ Sanctæ Radegundis names "Radegundis natione barbare de regione Thoringa" and her "avo rege Bessino, patruo Hermenfredo, patre rege Bertechario"[31]. In a later passage, Gregory records that, after the Frankish invasion of Thuringia, Radegund formed part of the booty taken home by Clotaire I King of the Franks, who later married her[32]. The testament of Radegundis dated to [584/87] survives[33]. Gregory of Tours records the death of St Radegund on 13 Aug[34]. She was canonised, her feast day is 13 Aug[35]. m (531, repudiated) as his second wife, CLOTAIRE I [Chlothachar/Lothar] King of the Franks, son of CLOVIS I [Chlodovech] King of the Franks & his second wife Chrotechildis [Clotilde] of Burgundy ([501/02]-Soissons [30 Nov/31 Dec] 561, bur Soissons, basilique Saint-Médard).

- LifeSketch: NOTE This link is no longer found FATHER OF ERPES: Hoger (Hagar) was born in Portus (present-day Pforzheim in Baden) around 300 AD. His father was Thuras (Thor, born c. 270 AD), and his grandfather was Herman (Irmin, born c. 240 AD). Herman was the king of the Hermunduri and lived in the Gommern area, near Magdeburg. After burying his father (Sceaf son of Weden, born c. 210 AD), who had died in battle against marauding Huns, Herman led his people to Baden around 260 AD, driving the Vangiones, Nemetae and Tribuci across the Rhine. He drove the Romans out of Portus (Pforzheim) and made it his residence. After Herman's death, his sons Jutho and Thuras divided his territories; Jutho ruled in the south, Thuras in the north. Thuras was succeeded by his son Hoger. Around 325 AD, the Alamanni attacked the Hermunduri in Baden and took over their territory. Most of the Hermanduri renamed themselves the Juthungi, and joined the Alamanni confederation. But the Hermanduri in the north did not wish to join. Hoger renamed them the Thuringi and led them back to central Germany, where they settled around Scithingi (Burgscheidungen). Hoger conquered the local Anglii (whose northern branch later joined the Saxons and Jutes in Britain) and Warnii tribes and started the Thuringian confederation, of which he was the first king. Hoger married an unknown Thuringi woman, who gave him a son named Erpas (c. 330 AD). Hoger died around 360 AD, and was succeeded by his son Erpas as King of Thuringia. The early kings of Thuringia were called the Scithings, from their ancestor Sceaf, son of Weden Frithuwald's son and twin brother to Sciold. Sceaf was a prince of the Anglii from Haithabu (Flensburg), who came to Gommern around 230 and married the daughter of the king of the Hermanduri, starting a new dynasty ancestral to Hoger. Among the descendants of Hoger are Erpas, Meerwig I, Weldalf, Meerwig II, Basin II, Bertacar, Fisud, Gundebald, Chamard, Radulf, and Heden. Clovis was a descendant of Hoger through his mother Basina, daughter of Basin I, who was the son of Weldalf and brother to Meerwig II. Kg. d. - LifeSketch: Rodelinda was a Lombard queen who lived in the 6th century. She was the wife of king Audoin and mother of king Alboin.[1] She was the first wife of Audoin, regent for the infant king of the Lombards Walthari from 540 to 546/547 and king in his own right from 546/547 to an uncertain date after 552, and gave him a son, his successor Alboin.[2] When the marriage took place is unclear. The contemporary Procopius speaks of a marriage arrangement between Audoin and an unnamed sister of Amalafrid, a prince of mixed royal Ostrogothic and Thuringian stock. The betrothal had been organized by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian at a date spanning from ca. 540 to 552, and this unnamed female may be the Rodelinda named by Paul the Deacon; but it has been objected to by the Prosopography of the Later Roman Empire that it is not certain that the marriage Procopius speaks of eventually took place. A major difficulty added to this is that in 552 Alboin was already a warrior. The PLRE believes the marriage between Audoin and Rodelinda took place in the 530s.[2][3] Other scholars instead tend to accept the identification, observing its importance in linking the Lombard kings with the bloodline of the Amali, the royal house of the Ostrogoths. Such a marriage would have made Audoin a legitimate heir to both the Ostrogothic and Thuringian thrones, the latter in particular as Audoin was already half-brother of the last king of the Thuringians, thus putting him in opposition to the Franks who had taken over most of the Thuringian lands.[4][5] Another explanation of Rodelinda's origins is given by István Boná: according to him she was probably a Bavarian princess, to be considered distinct from the Thuringian princess Audoin was engaged to later on.[6]

- Father: Gérold VOM ANGLACHGAU Graf im Kraichgau und Anglachgau
- Mother: Imma Gräfin im Kraichgau
- Birth: 758, Kraichgau, Fränkisches Reich
- Also known as: Hildegarde de Vintzgau
- Occupation: Princess of Swabia
- Title Of Nobility: Fränkische Königin
- House of GEROLDINGERN: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Hildegard (wife of Charlemagne) Hildegard (* approx. 758; † April 30, 783 in Diedenhofen an der Mosel) was the third wife of Charlemagne and mother of Ludwig the Pious. Little information can be found about her life, because like all of Karl's wives she was in the political background and was only mentioned in relation to her wedding, her death and as a mother She was the daughter of the Frankish Count Gerold from the Geroldon family and Imma, daughter of the Alemannic Count Hnabi and Hereswintha from Lake Constance. Her father owned extensive possessions in the territory of Karl's younger brother Karlmann, which makes this marriage one of Karl's most important long-term relationships, as he was able to strengthen his position in the areas east of the Rhine and bind the Alemannic nobility to himself. Among the Hildegard siblings, the adviser of Charlemagne stands out, the military leader Gerold the Younger, who was also mentioned as Count in der Baar and in Nagoldgau Since Hildegard's exact dates of birth are not available, it can be assumed that she was between 12 and 14 years old at the time. A marriage at this age was not unusual at the time, as the marriageable age was fixed at sexual maturity. In Roman law, which was widely accepted by the church, the minimum age for marriage for girls was set at 12 years Hildegard died on April 30th, 783 shortly after the birth of her last daughter and was buried on May 1st in the Abbey of Sankt Arnulf in Metz. It was Karl's wish that candles should always be lit on her grave and that prayers should be said for the deceased every day Although Karl already had a son by his first wife, in the will of 806 (Divisio Regnorum) the empire was divided among the three sons of Hildegard who reached adulthood. Because her son Ludwig the Pious succeeded Karl as emperor, Hildegard was called the "mother of kings and emperors"
- Royal House: Udalriching
- LifeSketch: Hildegard (c. 754– 30 April 783), was a Frankish queen consort who was the second wife of Charlemagne and mother of Louis the Pious. Little is known about her life, because, like all women related to Charlemagne, she became notable only from a political background, recording her parentage, wedding, death, and her role as a mother. Origins She was the daughter of the Germanic Count Gerold of Kraichgau (founder of the Udalriching family) and his wife Emma, in turn daughter of Duke Nebe (Hnabi) of Alemannia and Hereswintha vom Bodensee (of Lake Constance). Hildegard's father had extensive possessions in the dominion of Charlemagne's younger brother Carloman, so this union was of significant importance for Charlemagne, because he could strengthen its position in the east of the Rhine and also could bind the Alemannian nobility to his side. Life It is unknown if Charlemagne planned his marriage before the sudden death of Carloman or was just a part of the purposeful incorporation of his younger brother's Kingdom, in detriment of the claims of his nephews. In any event, the wedding between Charlemagne and Hildegard took place at Aix-la-Chapelle certainly before 30 April 771, after the repudiation of the Lombardian princess Desiderata, Charlemagne's previous wife. It is generally accepted that she was either 12 or 13 upon her marriage to Charlemagne. Girls could be married at any time after puberty, and in Roman law, which the Church upheld, the age of 12 was well established as being adequate. An intense physical relationship between the spouses was demonstrated by the fact that, during her 12 years of marriage, Hildegard had eight pregnancies (including one set of twins). Quite remarkably, the chronicles never mention either miscarriages or stillbirths, indicating that she was of sturdy health despite her young age at the time of the wedding. Hildegard accompanied Charlemagne on many of his military campaigns. She gave birth to her second child and first daughter, Adelaide, during the siege of Pavia, capital of the Kingdom of the Lombards (September 773/June 774), but the child died during the return journey to France. In 778, Hildegard accompanied her husband as far as Aquitaine, where she gave birth to twin boys Louis and Lothair. In 780/781, she traveled with Charlemagne and four of their children to Rome, where the sons Louis and Carloman (the latter renamed Pepin after his baptism by Pope Adrian I) were appointed sub-kings of Aquitaine and Italy respectively. This contributed to the strengthening of the alliance between the Carolingians and the Papacy. Because of her frequent pregnancies, it can be presumed that Hildegard accompanied her husband on further campaigns, at least temporarily. Hildegard died on 30 April 783, according to Paul the Deacon, from the after effects of her last childbirth. She was buried the following day (1 May 783) in the Abbey of Saint-Arnould in Metz. Following the wishes of Charlemagne, near her grave were burning candles and daily prayers were said for her soul. Interaction with the Church and Donations Hildegard made several donations to the monasteries of St. Denis and St. Martin of Tours. She was a friend of Saint Leoba, who reportedly lived some time with her at court. She intervened in Hildegard's religious education and also offered her spiritual advice. Together with her husband she commissioned the Godescalc Evangelistary, where for the first time she was explicitly mentioned as Queen -also of the Lombards- through the joint signature of documents with her husband. Hildegard enjoyed in her own lifetime from a high reputation, as was demonstrated in her obituary written by Paul the Deacon. However, these compliments are to be regarded with some skepticism. In her Epitaph were included phrases that may have been introduced to flatter Charlemagne: for example, the reference to the fact that Hildegard was the epitome of beauty, wisdom and virtue. This were common words used by medieval writers to their rulers. Pope Adrian I, in a letter to Charlemagne, expressed his condolences over the untimely death of Hildegard. Hildegard used her position as Queen consort to obtain for her siblings several territorial and monetary benefits; as far was known, she was the only of Charlemagne's wives or concubines who managed to obtain for a relative an office after her marriage. In addition, was also assumed that she, like other medieval queens, held several roles, such as ruling the court or being the representative (or regent) of the sovereign during his absence. This could mean that she was in close contact with all the government decision of her husband. Together with her husband, she was the main benefactress of the Monastery of Kempten (founded in 752), who received financial and political support. From Italy they brought after the conquest of the Kingdom of the Lombards in 773/774 the relics of the Roman martyrs Saints Gordianus and Epimachus to Kempten, whom, along with the Virgin Mary, are the patrons of the monastery. Hildegard was extensively mentioned in Kempten as one of the founders; her bust graced the pin crest and some coins of the later Imperial Abbey. In the late Middle Ages it was alleged that Hildegard was buried in Kempten, as well as her son Louis the Pious; there was built the so-called Hildegard Chapel (Hildegardkapelle), which quickly became a place of pilgrimage and where several miracles are reported. This explains why the Queen was revered as a saint in the Allgäu and always presented with an aureola. In the 17th century the building of another Hildegard Chapel at the Fürstäbtliche of Kempten was projected, but this was abandoned after the secularization. Children Although Charlemagne already had an older son (Pepin the Hunchback) from his first union with Himiltrude, he was not considered an heir after the rebellion in which he participated in 792. In his will of 806 (the called Divisio Regnorum), he divided his domains between the three surviving sons of Hildegard. Because her son Louis the Pious succeeded Charlemagne as Emperor, Hildegard is often called "mother of Kings and Emperors". Charles (772/73 – 4 December 811 in Bavaria). the eldest son according to Paul the Deacon, who recorded his parentage. His father associated him in the government of Francia and Saxony in 790, and crowned joint King of the Franks at Rome on 25 December 800, but died before his father. Adelaide (September 773/June 774 in Italy – July/August 774, buried Metz, Abbey of Saint-Arnould). Born during the siege of Pavia, she was named after an early deceased sister of Charlemagne. She died during the return journey to France. She is named daughter of King Charles by Paul the Deacon, when recording her place of burial, who also wrote an epitaph to "Adeleidis filia Karoli regis" specifying that she was born in Italy. Roy rude (775 – 6 June 810)named after her paternal great-grandmother. "Hruodrudem et Bertham et Gislam" are named daughters of King Charles and Hildegard by Einhard.[28] Angilbert's poem Ad Pippinum Italiæ regum names (in order) "Chrodthrudis...Berta...Gisla et Theodrada" as daughters of King Charles. She was betrothed in 781 with Constantine VI, Emperor of Byzantium, and received the name Erythro in preparation for her future wedding. The betrothal was broken in 787, and she, like all her sisters, remained unmarried. From a liaison with Rorgo of Rennes she had one son, the latter Louis, Abbot of Saint-Denis. Carlo man (777 – 8 July 810 in Milan, buried Verona, San Zeno Maggiore), renamed Pepin in Rome on 15 April 781 by Pope Adrian I, and crowned King of Italy that day. He also predeceased his father. Louis (Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, Vienne, 16 April/September 778 – 20 June 840 in Ingelheim, buried Metz, Abbey of Saint-Arnould). He is named, and his parentage recorded, by Paul the Deacon, which specifies that he was his parents' third son, born a twin with Lothair. Crowned King of Aquitaine in Rome on 15 April 781 by Pope Adrian I, his father named him as his successor at Aix-la-Chapelle, crowning him as joint Holy Roman Emperor on 11 September 813. Lothair (Chasseneuil-du-Poitou, Vienne, 16 April/September 778 – 779/80). He is named, and his parentage recorded, by Paul the Deacon, which specifies that he was his parents' fourth son "qui biennis occubuit", born a twin with Louis, and also wrote an epitaph to "Chlodarii pueri regis" naming "Karolus...rex genitorque tuus, genitrix regina...Hildigarda" and specifying that he was a twin. Bertha (779/80 – after 11 March 824), named after her paternal grandmother. An offer by Offa of Mercia to arrange a marriage between her and his son, Ecgfrith, led to Charlemagne breaking off diplomatic relations with Britain in 790, and banning British ships from his ports. Like her sisters, she never married, but from her liaison with Angilbert, a court official, she had two sons: Hartnid (about whom little is known) and the historian Nithard, Abbott of St. Riquier. Gisela (before May 781 – after 800, maybe after 814). Named after her surviving paternal aunt, she was baptized in Milan in May 781. Hildegard (March/April 783 in Thionville – 1/8 June 783, buried Metz, Abbey of Saint-Arnould), named after her mother (an unusual practice at that time), she is named daughter of King Charles by Paul the Deacon, when recording her place of burial, and also wrote an epitaph to "Hildegardis filiæ [Karoli regis]" specifying that she lived 40 days and her mother died after giving birth to her.

- Father: Werner II VON WORMSGAU
- Mother: Oda Gräfin im Wormsgau
- Birth: ABT 835, Lorraine, Grand Est, France
- LifeSketch: Waldrada († 9.
