- Also known as: Meurig
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Silures
- LifeSketch: Marius (Mayric) came next, and ruled from ca AD 57-97. Inheriting the crown from his father, Marius enjoyed friendly relations with Rome. During his reign, he defeated and killed Soderic, king of the Picts, in a great battle. The present county of Westmorland was so named in Marius' honour because of the battle, and Marius accordingly had an inscribed stone set up in the county commemorating his victory. Marius (Welsh: Mayric) was a legendary king of the Britons during the time of the Roman occupation of Britain, as recounted in Geoffrey of Monmouth's pseudohistorical Historia Regum Britanniae. He was the son of King Arvirargus and ruled following his father's death. According to Geoffrey, he ruled wisely in the time when the Picts first came to Britain. A fleet of ships under the leadership of Sodric came from Scythia and landed in Albany. Once there, they began to destroy the lands and Marius was forced to react. Following numerous battles, Marius killed Sodric and set up a stone there to remember that triumph. In addition, that land became known as Westmorland after him.

- LifeSketch: From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Arvirargus (or Arviragus) was a legendary, and possibly historical, British king of the 1st century AD. A shadowy historical Arviragus is known only from a cryptic reference in a satirical poem by Juvenal, in which a giant turbot presented to the Roman emperor Domitian (AD 81 – 96) is said to be an omen that "you will capture some king, or Arviragus will fall from his British chariot-pole" He may be based on the real historical figure Caratacus

- MARRIED FOR THE 1ST TIME, BEFORE BECOMING KING: About 957, before he ascended the throne, Edgar married Æthelflæd, daughter of Ealdorman Ordmaer. They had 1 child before her death in 962. His 3rd wife spread rumors that they were never married.
- ABDUCTED WULFTHRYTH FROM WILTON ABBEY: In 962 King Edgar carried off 24 year old Wulfthryth from the nunnery at Wilton Abbey. He took to his residence at Kemsing, near Sevenoaks. Bride abduction was a common practice of the time and Wulfthryth was never a captive., 962, Wilton Abbey, Wiltshire, England
- RETURNED WULFTHRYTH TO WILTON ABBEY: After 2 years of marriage and the birth of a daughter, Edith, Edgar repented stealing Wulfthryth away from her religious devotions and returned her (and their small daughter) to Wilton Abbey. He also paid great amounts of restitution and support., 964, Wilton Abbey, Wiltshire, England
- Title Of Nobility: King of the English, King of England
- REIGN AS KING OF ENGLAND: BET 1 OCT 959 AND 8 JUL 975
- PRECEDENT MAKING CORONATION: Not at the beginning of his reign but at it's pinnacle, Edgar was crowned King of England at Bath in a ceremony that set the basis for coronations to this day. In another precedent, he also had Ælfthryth anointed Queen, the first English consort to be anointed Queen, all before her were Queen Consorts with no authority, 973, Bath, Somerset, England
- LifeSketch: Edgar (Old English: Ēadgār; c. 943—8 July 975), known as the Peaceful or the Peaceable, was King of England from 959 until his death. He was the younger son of Edmund I and Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury, and came to the throne as a teenager, following the death of his older brother Eadwig. As king, Edgar further consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors, with his reign being noted for its relative stability. His most trusted advisor was Dunstan, whom he recalled from exile and made Archbishop of Canterbury. The pinnacle of Edgar's reign was his coronation at Bath in 973, which was organised by Dunstan and forms the basis for the current coronation ceremony. After his death he was succeeded by his son Edward, although the succession was disputed. Edgar was the son of Edmund I and Ælfgifu of Shaftesbury. Upon the death of King Edmund in 946, Edgar's uncle, Eadred, ruled until 955. Eadred was succeeded by his nephew, Eadwig, Edmund's eldest son. Early Years- Eadwig was not a popular king, and his reign was marked by conflict with nobles and the Church, primarily St Dunstan and Archbishop Oda. In 957, the thanes of Mercia and Northumbria changed their allegiance to Edgar. A conclave of nobles declared Edgar as king of the territory north of the Thames. Edgar became King of England upon Eadwig's death in October 959, aged just 16. Government - One of Edgar's first actions was to recall Dunstan from exile and have him made Bishop of Worcester (and subsequently Bishop of London and later, Archbishop of Canterbury). Dunstan remained Edgar's advisor throughout his reign. ...His reign was peaceful. The Kingdom of England was well established, and Edgar consolidated the political unity achieved by his predecessors. By the end of his reign, England was sufficiently unified in that it was unlikely to regress back to a state of division among rival kingships, as it had to an extent under the reign of Eadred. William Blackstone mentions that King Edgar standardised measure throughout the realm. According to George Molyneaux, Edgar's reign, "far more than the reigns of either Alfred or Æthelstan, was probably the most pivotal phase in the development of the institutional structures that were fundamental to royal rule in the eleventh-century kingdom". Indeed, an early eleventh century king Cnut the Great states in a letter to his subjects that ''it is my will that all the nation, ecclesiastical and lay, shall steadfastly observe Edgar's laws, which all men have chosen and sworn at Oxford' - Wikipedia

=Dagobert I KING OF AUSTRASIA, KING OF FRANKS
- Father: Pharamond KING OF THE FRANKS
- Mother: Argotta Rosemund Queen of the Franks
- Birth: 392, Dispargum, Duchy of Thuringia, Germania Inferior
- Also known as: Chlogio
- LifeSketch: This is not Clovis "the Great" - it may be his grandfather, but it is not him. The History Files Clodio / Clodian VI (426-447/8) Clodio was the king of the Salian Franks around Cambrai. According to legend his father was Pharamond, the first king of the Salian Franks after the departure of Roman administration from much of northern Gaul. Clodio's semi-legendary son Merovech (who succeeded him at Cambrai), was the founder of the Merovingian kings, and was called 'the Long Hair' or 'the Hairy' because of the length of his hair. From then on the Merovingians were called the 'Long Haired Kings' and the cutting of a king's hair represented his loss of royal power. In history, Clodio was probably real. He lived in Thuringian territory, and ruled at the same time as the semi-legendary kings Theudemer and Richemer. All that is known of his reign is that he took the town of Cambrai from the Romans. The suggestion here is that both he and Pharamond migrated from Thuringian territory, crossed the Rhine in 420, and it was left to Clodio to take Cambrai after 426. Although Merovech and Clodio are considered by some to be semi-legendary, Merovech's son, Childeric I, was very real and cannot be considered fictional. ******************************** -- Foundation for Medieval Genealogy: CHLODIO, son of ---. Chlodio appears to have been the first Frankish leader to have invaded northern France. Gregory of Tours records that, according to "the consular lists," Chlodio "a man of high birth and marked ability among his people" was king of the Franks and lived in the castle of Duisburg [Dispargum] in Thuringia. He reports that Chlodio defeated the Romans and captured the town of Cambrai, before occupying Gaul as far as the river Somme. Assuming that Chlodio was a historical figure, he was presumably only one of several local Frankish leaders as Gregory also reports that "the Franks…set up in each country district and each city long-haired kings chosen from the foremost and most noble family of their race." It is assumed that Chlodio was not the only Frankish leader who invaded Roman Gaul. There is no direct reference to the dating of the invasion, but it presumably took place during the first half of the 5th century. The "Liber Historiæ Francorum" names "Faramundo rege, Chlodionem filium eius" when recording that he succeeded his father, in a later passage stating that he reigned for 20 years, but there is no basis for assuming that Faramund was a historical figure. Paddymack please do not delete this again.....
- Salian Franks in Roman Gaul: The term "Franks" emerged in the 3rd century AD, covering Germanic tribes who settled on the northern Rhine frontier of the Roman Empire, including the Bructeri, Ampsivarii, Chamavi, Chattuarii and Salians. While all of them had a tradition of participating in the Roman military, the Salians were allowed to settle within the Roman Empire. In 358, having already been living in the civitas of Batavia for some time, Emperor Julian, defeated the Chamavi and Salians,[3] allowing the latter to settle further away from the border, in Toxandria.[4]
- Duisberg History: The first syllable of the name of the city could go back to the Proto-Indo-European root *dʰeus-, meaning something like "wet area" or "flood plain" Duisburg therefore could mean fortified place in the floodplain". Another interpretation assumes that the name is derived from the Old German "duis" which means "hill". Duisburg could mean something like "castle on the hill". Thus, a place on a hill overlooking the Rhine, that could refer to the area of the present Town Hall. Duisburgau was also the name of the medieval Gau (country subdivision) on the Lower Rhine. In 420: The Franks usurp the Roman settlement and recolonize the old part of the town.

- Also known as: Egbert
- Title Of Nobility: King of Kent, BET 664 AND 673, Kingdom of Kent, England
- LifeSketch: Ecgberht (or Egbert) (died 4 July 673) was a King of Kent (sometimes called Egbert I) who ruled from 664 to 673, succeeding his father Eorcenberht.[1] He may have still been a child when he became king following his father's death on 14 July 664, because his mother Seaxburh was recorded as having been regent. Ecgberht's court seems to have had many diplomatic and ecclesiastic contacts. He hosted Wilfrid and Benedict Biscop, and provided escorts to Archbishop Theodore and Abbot Adrian of Canterbury for their travels in Gaul. The various versions of the Kentish Royal Legend state that, spurred on by his adviser Thunor, he had his cousins Æthelred and Æthelberht (sons of his uncle Eormenred) killed and had to pay wergild to their sister Domne Eafe, enabling her to build a Monastery at Thanet;[2] this may reflect a dynastic struggle that ended in the success of Eorcenberht's line. The two murdered princes were later venerated as saints at Ramsey Abbey.[3] A charter records Ecgberht's patronage of the monastery at Chertsey. Ecgberht was succeeded by his brother Hlothhere, who was in turn succeeded by Eadric and still later by Wihtred.

He was the fourth son of Malcolm III and Margaret of Wessex but the first to be considered eligible for the throne after the death of his father. Edgar claimed the kingship in early 1095, following the murder of his half-brother Duncan II in late 1094 by Máel Petair of Mearns, a supporter of Edgar's uncle Donald III. His older brother Edmund sided with Donald, presumably in return for an appanage and acknowledgement as the heir of the aged and son-less Donald. Edgar received limited support from William II of England as Duncan had before him; however, the English king was occupied with a revolt led by Robert de Mowbray, Earl of Northumbria, who appears to have had the support of Donald and Edmund. Rufus campaigned in northern England for much of 1095, and during this time Edgar gained control only of Lothian. A charter issued at Durham at this time names him "... son of Máel Coluim King of Scots ... possessing the whole land of Lothian and the kingship of the Scots by the gift of my lord William, king of the English, and by paternal heritage." Edgar's claims had the support of his brothers Alexander and David — Ethelred was Abbot of Dunkeld, and Edmund was divided from his siblings by his support of Donald — and his uncle Edgar Ætheling as these witnessed the charter at Durham. William Rufus spent 1096 in Normandy which he bought from his brother Robert Curthose, and it was not until 1097 that Edgar received the further support which led to the defeat of Donald and Edmund in a hard-fought campaign led by Edgar Ætheling. Although Geoffrey Gaimar claimed that Edgar owed feudal service to William Rufus, it is clear from Rufus's agreement to pay Edgar 40 or 60 shillings a day maintenance when in attendance at the English court that this was less than accurate. In any event, he did attend the court on occasion. On 29 May 1099, for example, Edgar served as sword-bearer at the great feast to inaugurate Westminster Hall. After William Rufus's death, however, Edgar ceased to appear at the English court. He was not present at the coronation of Henry I. Edgar was certainly not heir by primogeniture, as later kings would be, since Duncan II had a legitimate son and heir in the person of William fitz Duncan. With Donald and Edmund removed, however, Edgar was uncontested king of Scots, and his reign incurred no major crisis. Compared with his rise to power, Edgar's reign is obscure. One notable act was his gift of a camel (or perhaps an elephant), presumably a 'souvenir' of the First Crusade, to his fellow Gael Muircheartach Ua Briain, High King of Ireland. In 1098, Edgar signed a treaty with Magnus Barefoot, King of Norway, setting the boundary between Scots and Norwegian claims in the west. By ceding claims to the Hebrides and Kintyre to Magnus, Edgar acknowledged the practical realities of the existing situation. Edgar's religious foundations included a priory at Coldingham in 1098, associated with the Convent of Durham. At Dunfermline Abbey he sought support from Anselm of Canterbury with his mother's foundation from which the monks of Canterbury may have been expelled by Domnall Bán. Edgar died in Edinburgh on 8 January 1107 and was buried at Dunfermline Abbey. Unmarried and childless, he acknowledged his brother Alexander as his successor. Edgar's will also granted David an appanage in "Cumbria" (the lands of the former Kingdom of Strathclyde), and perhaps also in southern parts of Lothian. David would later be known as Prince of the Cumbrians ---------------------------------- “Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013): “MALCOLM III (CEANNMORE), King of the Cumbrians, King of Scots, eldest son of Duncan I, King of Scots, by ___, cousin of Siward, Earl of Northumberland, born about 1031. - LifeSketch: Chrocus or Crocus, also Croc, Krokus, Crochus or Croscus (fl. 260–306) was a leader of the Alamanni in the late 3rd century. In 260, he led an uprising of the Alamanni against the Roman Empire, traversing the Upper Germanic Limes and advancing as far as Clermont[disambiguation needed], and possibly as far as Ravenna, and he was possibly present at the Alamannic conquest of the Frankish town of Mende. According to Gregory of Tours' History of the Franks, Chrocus was a famous king of his time, and was responsible for a great deal of destruction throughout Gaul, most notably of all ancient temples located in Gaul though this may have been exaggerated. One of the temples he allegedly tore down was called the Vasso Galatæ, a marvelous structure that once stood in Clermont. Many legends lived on about Crocus and some have him dead in 260, others still talk of him alive in 403. Crocus/Chrocus, in many records described as king of the Alamanni or Vandals, aided with his troops, among them the Alamanni Latinus, Agilo and Scudilo, in Constantine I's proclamation as emperor. In 306, he was present as a general in Roman service at the death of Constantius Chlorus in York, Britannia, and called for his son Constantinus to be declared the new Roman Emperor. https://history.wikia.org/wiki/Crocus_of_the_Alemanni ____________________________________________________ Chrocus (also known as Crocus) was a king of the Alemanni who invaded Roman Gaul c. 256 CE, and wreaked massive destruction, until he was defeated by the Roman legions at Arles and then executed. Conversely, he was a king of the Alemanni who served Rome and supported Constantine the Great (r. 306-337 CE) in his struggle to become sole emperor of the Roman Empire. According to yet another version of history, he was a Vandal warlord who, after conquering Germania, invaded Gaul c. 406 CE and destroyed every city he encountered until he was stopped by the Romans at Arles and, after being made to view the misery he had wrought, was killed. He lived either c. 256 CE, c. 306 CE, or c. 406 CE, depending upon the source one accepts as valid. In Gregory's view, Chrocus was the embodiment of the forces of evil. His wanton destruction of Gaul and murder of Christians was finally halted by the civilized Romans at Arles, where he was captured and received "just punishment" for his crimes; he was tortured and then executed or, as Gregory writes, "killed with a sword." Prior to his defeat at Arles, however, Chrocus sacked numerous cities, destroyed churches, and slaughtered the inhabitants of Gaul indiscriminately. According to Fredegar's account, "Not a single city or fortification was saved in Gaul", and Gregory writes that Chrocus' aim was nothing less than "razing to the ground all the buildings constructed in ancient times." Many of these buildings had been temples to pagan gods but were now churches and, in his rampage, he also made martyrs of many bishops and priests of the church. https://www.worldhistory.org/Chrocus/ ____________________________________________________

- Father: Edward THE ELDER King of the Anglo-Saxons
- Mother: ECGWYNN
- Birth: 894, Wessex, Devon, England
- Christening: 895, Wessex
- Also known as: Aethelstan , King of Wessex & Kent
- Also known as: Ethelstan
- Also known as: Æðelstan
- FOSTERED BY AUNT ÆTHELFLAED IN MERCIA: It is believed that after the death of his mother and his fathers remarriage, Æthelstan went to live in Mercia, where his Aunt Æthelflæd and Uncle Æthelred continued his royal education. It appears that he looked upon them as loving parents and made a 'pact of paternal piety' with Æthelred.
- SIGNIFICANT ROYAL GIFT FROM ALFRED: Alfred the Great honoured his young grandson Æthelstan with a ceremony in which he gave him a scarlet cloak, a belt set with gems, and a sword with a gilded scabbard. Scholars interpret this as Alfred's endorsement of Æthelstan as his successor instead of Edward.
- SUCCEEDED EDWARD THE ELDER TO BECOME KING OF ENGLAND: Upon the death of his father King Edward on 17 July 924, Æthelstan became King of England, it is believed he was first acknowledged as king by Mercia., 17 JUL 924, Farndon, Cheshire, Mercia, England
- CORONATION: Succeeded his father and brother in 924 but was crowned King of the Anglo Saxons on 4 September 925 by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Athelm., 4 SEP 925, Kingston upon Thames, London, England
- GAINED CONTROL OF ALL BRITAIN: On July 12 927 the kings of Northumbria accepted Æthelstan's overlordship and he achieved lordship over ALL of Britain: Cornwall,Wessex, Mercia, East-Anglia, Wales, York and Northumbria., 12 JUL 927, Eamont, Penryth, Cumbria, England
- Ruled: Wessex and Mercia, BET 924 AND 939, England
- BATTLE OF BRUNANBURH: Considered one of the most significant battles of the whole of the British Isles, the Battle of Brunanburh was fought in 937 between Æthelstan, King of England, and an alliance of Olaf Guthfrithson, King of Dublin; Constantine II, King of Scotland, and Owain, King of Strathclyde., 937, Brunanburh, England
- National ID: IND2391
- LifeSketch: Æthelstan or Athelstan (/ˈæθəlstæn/; Old English: Æþelstan[a] or Æðelstān;[b] Old Norse: Aðalsteinn meaning "noble stone"; c. 894 – 27 October 939) was King of the Anglo-Saxons from 924 to 927 and King of the English from 927 to 939 when he died.[c] He was the son of King Edward the Elder and his first wife, Ecgwynn. Modern historians regard him as the first King of England and one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon kings. He never married and had no children. He was succeeded by his half-brother, Edmund. When Edward died in July 924, Æthelstan was accepted by the Mercians as king. His half-brother Ælfweard may have been recognised as king in Wessex, but died within three weeks of their father's death. Æthelstan encountered resistance in Wessex for several months, and was not crowned until September 925. In 927 he conquered the last remaining Viking kingdom, York, making him the first Anglo-Saxon ruler of the whole of England. In 934 he invaded Scotland and forced Constantine II to submit to him, but Æthelstan's rule was resented by the Scots and Vikings, and in 937 they invaded England. Æthelstan defeated them at the Battle of Brunanburh, a victory which gave him great prestige both in the British Isles and on the Continent. After his death in 939 the Vikings seized back control of York, and it was not finally reconquered until 954. Æthelstan centralised government; he increased control over the production of charters and summoned leading figures from distant areas to his councils. These meetings were also attended by rulers from outside his territory, especially Welsh kings, who thus acknowledged his overlordship. More legal texts survive from his reign than from any other 10th-century English king. They show his concern about widespread robberies, and the threat they posed to social order. His legal reforms built on those of his grandfather, Alfred the Great. Æthelstan was one of the most pious West Saxon kings, and was known for collecting relics and founding churches. His household was the centre of English learning during his reign, and it laid the foundation for the Benedictine monastic reform later in the century. No other West Saxon king played as important a role in European politics as Æthelstan, and he arranged the marriages of several of his sisters to continental rulers. More information at website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Æthelstan
- KING OF THE ENGLISH AND RULER OF THE WHOLE OF BRITAIN, title he chose himself: Æthelstan chose to use the title 'King of the Whole of Britain'. On his coins and charters he is described as 'Rex totius Britanniae'. A gospel book he donated to Christ Church, Canterbury is inscribed "Æthelstan, king of the English and ruler of the whole of Britain ..". In charters from 931 he is "king of the English, elevated by the right hand of the almighty to the throne of the whole kingdom of Britain"

- Occupation: First King of the Franks at Cologne -428, King of Tongres, Roy des Morins, Dux Francorum, Préfet
- Title Of Nobility: King of the Franks at Cologne, 409, Köln, Kingdom of the Salian Franks, Gaul, Roman Empire
- National Identification: 2519
- LifeSketch: ********************** The History Files Considered to be the first king of the Salian Franks from AD 409, Pharamond is scarcely known to history, living on the fringes of the Roman empire as he did. His parentage is unknown, but he could have been a son of Marcomer. Contemporary historian Prosper Tiro wrote about Pharamond. In 420, he reportedly led his people across the River Rhine to head into the Roman Empire. This movement effectively separated his tribe from the majority of the Ripuarian Franks who had settled near Cologne. However, there were certainly Franks already settled on the west bank of the Rhine in 407, possibly Sicambrian Franks, so perhaps Pharamond was leading the first group of Salian Franks to arrive. Pharamond was eventually succeeded by his son Clodio. His wife was Argotta. A Pharamond appears as the king of France in the prose Tristan and later Arthurian works; he was clearly inspired by the historical leader. *************************

- Birth: 395, Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
- Also known as: Chlogio
- Also known as: Chlodian VI der Merovingen
- Also known as: Clodio, Clodius, Clodion, Cloio or Chlogio
