- Occupation: lebte als Einsiedler in dem von Ihm gegründeten Kloster Gellone, 29 JUN 806, Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, , Languedoc-Roussillon, Royaumes francs
- Title Of Nobility: 2nd Duke Of Toulouse
- LifeSketch: Wilhelm's parents are known from several sources. On the other hand, information about his siblings and children is given in the documents dealing with the founding of the Gellone Abbey. These documents exist in two versions, are dated 14th and 15th December 804, respectively, but actually come from the 11th century and have the dispute between the monasteries of Gellone and Aniane as their background; the documents probably go back to the (lost) original document, but are apparently so falsified that the original content can hardly be determined. According to these documents, his brothers were Theudonius, Count von Autun, Theodoricus and Adalhelm. His sisters were named Albana and Bertana. His wives were Kunigunde and Guitburge or Witburg and Kunigunde, so that the order of the marriages can no longer be determined here. Only Bernhard, Witcher, Gaucelm and Helinbruch are given as his children. Research assigns eleven children to him. [7] Presumably from Kunigunde: Berà Count of Rasès; † before 814; ⚭ Romilla Witcher, 804 attested; † probably before 824 Hildehelm, 804 attested; † probably before 824 Helinbruch, 804 attested; † probably before 824 Herbert, 803 with his father in front of Barcelona, 803/43 attested Bernhard, 804/44 attested, until 830 Count of Autun, until 831 Margrave of Septimania, 834 in Burgundy, expropriated in 844; ⚭ June 24, 824 in Aachen Dhuoda; † after February 2, 843, sister of Aribert Gerberga (Gariberga), presumably identical to the nun from Châlon, who was drowned with her brother in 834 in Chalon-sur-Saône because of sorcery From the second marriage probably come from: Gaucelm, attested in 804, presumably identical to the Count of Roussillon, who was beheaded in Chalon-sur-Saône in 834 for sorcery with his sister. Teddericus (Dietrich) III .; † shortly after 826, Count of Autun Werner (Guarnierius) Rothlindis; ⚭ Wala (Carolingian)

Orderic Vitalis records that Robert de Grantmesnil, son of “Hugo de Grentemaisnilio” and his wife, married firstly “Agnetem Ranulfi Bajocensis filiam”[80]. ... 3. ALICE (-after 1139). Guillaume de Jumièges records that "Richardum”, son of “Gislebertus ex filia comitis de Claromonte”, married “sororem comitis Rannulfi junioris comitis Cestriæ” by whom he had “tres filios Gislebertum qui ei successit et fratres eius”[82]. The History of Gloucester St Peter records the confirmation by "Ranulphus comes Cestriæ" of the donation of "molendinum de Taddewelle" by "Alicia soror eius" for the soul of "Ricardi filii Gilberti viri sui" (undated)[83]. “Rics filius Gilebi” donated lands in Hawkedon, Suffolk to the abbey of St Edmunds, with the consent of “Rogs…filius me…et coiux mea Xpiana”, by undated charter[84]. This charter is attributed to Richard FitzGilbert in Collectanea Topographica et Genealogica and dated to 1154, which must be incorrect in view of Richard’s recorded death in 1136. The reference to his wife’s name as Christiana cannot be explained. It does not appear that Richard married twice, assuming that the sources quoted here are accurate. The extract from the History of Gloucester St Peter suggests that his wife “Alice of Chester” survived her husband, while the St Edmunds charter shows that “Christiana” was alive after Richard’s son Roger was old enough to consent to the donation. She was rescued from the Welsh by Miles of Gloucester[85]. A charter of Henry Duke of Normandy dated [1153/early Apr 1154] relates to donations to Gloucester by "Ranulphi comitis Cestrie…[et] Alis sororis eiusdem comitis" for the soul of "Ricardi filii Gilberti viri sui""[86]. - LifeSketch: “Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013): “MAUD OF GLOUCESTER, married before 1135 RANULPH DE GERNONS, Knt., 5th Earl of Chester, lord of Eastham and Macclesfield, Cheshire, Coventry, Warwickshire, Barrow upon Soar, Leicestershire, and Greetham, Lincolnshire, etc., hereditary Vicomte of Avranches in Normandy, son and heir of Ranulph (nicknamed le Meschin), 4th Earl of Chester, hereditary Vicomte of Bayeux, by Lucy, widow of Ives de Taillebois and Roger Fitz Gerold, and heiress (and possibly daughter) of Thorold, Sheriff of Lincoln. He was probably born about 1105. She had the manor of Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire by the gift of her father. They had two sons, Hugh [6th Earl of Chester] and Richard. By an unknown mistress, he apparently had an illegitimate son, Robert Fitz Count. He was present at royal councils in Northampton, 1131, Westminster, 1132, and Windsor, 1132. He accepted King Stephen's accession in 1135, and attended the royal council at Westminster in 1136. In 1136 he witnessed the Oxford charter of liberties. In 1136 or 1137 he led a disastrous expedition into Wales from which he was one of the few to escape alive. In 1140 he attempted to capture Henry of Scotland and his wife on their return from King Stephen's court. The same year he surprised the city of Lincoln and manned it for the empress. The king's response was to visit Lincolnshire, where he peaceably renewed a pact with Ranulph. King Stephen left for London before Christmas, but made a surprise return during the festival to lay siege to Lincoln Castle. Ranulph managed to escape, obtained the armed assistance of his father-in-law, Robert, Earl of Gloucester, and other Angevin adherents, raised soldiers from Cheshire and Wales, and marched back to Lincoln, where his wife and half-brother were continuing to resist the siege. At the subsequent Battle of Lincoln 2 February 1141 the king was captured, and Ranulph followed up his victory with sack and slaughter in the city itself. At the Siege of Winchester in September 1141 he initially joined the queen's army, only to encounter such suspicion and hostility that he switched to the empress's camp. In 1144 he was besieged in Lincoln by the king. He met King Stephen at Stamford probably early in 1146, where he apparently renewed his fealty to the king. The king granted him royal manors in Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, the towns of Newcastle under Lyme, and Derby, land in Grimsby, and the soke of Grantham, plus the honors of William d'Aubeny Brito (Belvoir), Roger de Bully (Tickhill), and Roger de Poitou (Lancaster, although that which lay north of the Ribble was under Scottish control). He was also confirmed in his tenure of Lincoln Castle. He duly helped Stephen to capture Bedford town and besiege Wallingford Castle in 1146, but the king and the royalist magnates remained deeply suspicious of his failure to restore revenues from royal lands and castles he had seized. He was again with the king at Northampton 29 August 1146, but his refusal to give hostages or restore royal property led to his sudden arrest and imprisonment He was released after agreeing to Stephen's terms and taking an oath not to resist the king in future, whereupon he set about trying to recover by force what he had been obliged to surrender. Subsequent campaigns led to armed confrontations with Stephen's son Eustache, and on at least two occasions, near Coventry (probably early in 1147) and Lincoln (1149), with the king himself. He did homage to David I, King of Scots at Carlisle in 1149, who granted him the honour of Lancaster (including lands north of the Ribble) in exchange for a renunciation of claims to Carlisle. In 1150, in alliance with Madog ap Maredudd, king of Powys, he prepared an attack on Owain Gwynedd, but the enterprise collapsed after defeat at Coleshill. Some time between 1149 and 1153, he made a formal agreement with Robert, Earl of Leicester, whereby each pledged to bring only twenty knights if obliged by his liege lord to fight against the other. Both earls joined the Angevin campaign in 1153. At Devizes in 1153, Henry, Duke of Normandy gave him lavish grants in the north midlands, including the estates of several royalist barons which the earl was effectively being invited to seize; Ranulph was also restored in his 'Norman inheritance,' which has been interpreted to include Breuil, the castle of Vire, and other holdings once associated with his family, together with comital status and extensive lordship in the Avranchin. During his lifetime, Ranulph founded four religious houses, including an abbey for Savignac monks at Basingwerk, Flintshire, in 1131, priories for Benedictine monks and nuns at Minting, Lincolnshire, and Chester respectively (both at uncertain dates), and, on his deathbed, a priory for Augustinian canons at Trentham, Staffordshire. RANULPH DE GERNONS, Earl of Chester, died at Gresley, Derbyshire 17 Dec. 1153, and was buried at St. Werburg's, Chester. Sometime in the period, 1153-59, his widow, Maud, with consent of her son, Hugh, gave the canons of Calke, then part of Ticknall, the church of St. Wiestan-in-Repton, Derbyshire. Probably in 1158 Queen Eleanor, wife of Henry II, gave confirmation to his widow, Maud, of her wapentake and hundred of Repton, Derbyshire. In 1172 she founded Repton Priory, Derbyshire. Maud, Countess of Chester, died 29 July 1189. ........................................................................... Ranulph de Gernon, 2nd Earl of Chester was born before 1100 at Castle of Gernon, Normandy, France. He was the son of Ranulph le Meschin, 1st Earl of Chester and Lucy (?) He married Maud fitz Robert, daughter of Robert de Caen, 1st Earl of Gloucester and Mabel FitzHamon, circa 1141. He died on 16 December 1153, supposedly poisoned by his wife and William Peverell, of Nottingham. He was buried at St. Werburg's, Chester, Cheshire, England. He succeeded as the Vicomte d'Avranches [Normandy] circa 1129. He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Chester [E., 1121] circa 1129. He held the office of Constable of Lincoln in 1136, by King Stephen. He fought in the Battle of Lincoln on 2 February 1141, against King Stephen. On 29 August 1146 at Northampton, Northamptonshire, England, he was seized at court by King Stephen, in return for his part in the Battle of Lincoln. - Life Sketch: Aubrey I was married by 1086. As his spouse's name is recorded as Beatrice in 1104 and Beatrice is named as the mother of his eldest son, she was almost certainly his wife in 1086. Beatrice attended the formal ceremony for the founding of Earl's Colne Priory. Besides sons Geoffrey, Aubrey II, and William mentioned above, the couple's children included Roger and Robert. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Aubrey_de_Vere_I ------------------------------------------------------------------------- AUBREY de Vere, son of --- ([before 1040]-Colne Priory, Essex [1112], bur Colne Priory). ["Alberico de Ver" attested a charter of Conan II Duke of Brittany[1072] (who ruled in his own name from 1057 to 1066). One passage in the Complete Peerage highlights the absence of proof that this was the same person as Aubrey who later held lands in England[1073]. If it was the same person, his career would have been a long one from [1057/66] to [1112], which suggests that they may have been different persons.] William I King of England granted him estates, particularly in north Essex, south Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. He attested a royal charter as Chamberlain [camerarius] in 1084. [Domesday Book records “the land which belonged to Earl Aubrey”, including Compton, Durrington, Winterslow, in Wiltshire, Iffley and Minster in Oxfordshire[1074]. It is not certain that these entries apply to Aubrey de Vere who has not been identified with the comital title in other sources. In addition, the unusual heading to the section "the land which belonged to…" suggests that it may have been confiscated or relinquished before the date of Domesday.] Domesday Book records “Aubrey de Vere” holding numerous properties in Essex[1075]. He acted as Sheriff of Berkshire in [1106][1076]. The Chronicle of Abingdon records a donation by "dapiferi Albrici…et uxore eius Beatrice", with the consent of "eorum filiis…Albricus, Rogerus, Rotbertus, Wuillelmus"[1077]. m (before 1086) BEATRICE, daughter of ---. “Godefridus de Ver, Albrici senioris filius, Albrici junioris frater” donated property to Colne priory by undated charter, which names “matre sua Beatrice”[1078]. Aubrey de Vere & his wife had [six] children: 1. GEOFFREY (-before 1112). “Godefridus de Ver, Albrici senioris filius, Albrici junioris frater” donated property to Colne priory by undated charter, which names “matre sua Beatrice”[1079]. 2. AUBREY [II] ([before 1090]-London 15 May 1141[1080], bur Colne Priory, Essex). ... 3. ROGER . He succeeded his father in Twywell, Northamptonshire[1146] 5. WILLIAM (-bur Colne Priory[1147]). The Chronicle of Abingdon records a donation by "dapiferi Albrici…et uxore eius Beatrice", with the consent of "eorum filiis…Albricus, Rogerus, Rotbertus, Wuillelmus"[1148]. - LifeSketch: Rohese Giffard (sometimes Rose, or Rohais; died after 1113) was a Norman noblewoman in the late 11th and early 12th century. Early life Giffard was the daughter of Walter Giffard. Her maternal grandfather was Gerard Fleitel. Walter Giffard was the lord of Longueville-sur-Scie in upper Normandy. Marriage Giffard was the wife of Richard fitzGilbert, the son of Gilbert, Count of Brionne. Domesday Book records him as the eighth richest landowner in England, with lands centered on two locations – lands in Kent and Surrey grouped around Tonbridge and lands in Essex and Suffolk grouped around Clare. Their children were 1. Roger, 2. Gilbert, 3. Walter, 4. Robert, 5. Richard, 6. Godfrey, 7. Rohese (or Rohais), and 8. Adelisa. Roger received the Norman lands after Richard fitzGilbert's death, Gilbert received his father's English lands, Walter was given a Welsh lordship by King Henry I of England, and Robert was given lands around London by King Henry I. Richard became a monk at Bec Abbey and was later abbot of Ely Abbey. The last son, Godfrey, is known only from his burial at Clare. Rohais married Eudo Dapifer and Adelisa married Walter Tirel. A daughter of Richard, who is unnamed, is said to have married Ralph de Fougères, but it is not known whether this refers to another marriage for either Rohais or Adelisa or if this is a third daughter. Some of the children were born before 1066, as a gift to Jumièges Abbey in 1066 mentions the souls of their children. Landowner Giffard occurs in Domesday Book as a landowner in her own right. Richard died between 1085 and 1087, as his son Gilbert witnesses a charter of King William II of England in that year. Rohese survived him and was still alive in 1113, when she gave a gift to St Neot's Priory which had been founded as a dependent priory of Bec on Rohese's own manor of Eynesbury. Rohese's descendants eventually were the heirs to the lands held by her father, receiving half the honour of Long Crendon in Buckinghamshire in the reign of King Richard I of England (r. 1189–1199). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohese_Giffard ------------------------------------------------------------------ “Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial & Medieval Families,” Douglas Richardson (2013): “RICHARD FITZ GILBERT, of Bienfaite and Orbec, Normandy, lord of Clare, Suffolk, Tonbridge, Kent, Standon, Hertfordshire, Blechingley, Surrey, etc., son of Gilbert Fitz Godfrey, Count of Brionne, born about 1030-35. He married ROHESE (or ROHAIS, ROHAID, ROAXIDIS) GIFFARD, daughter of Walter Giffard, of Longueville-sur-Scie (Seine-Maritime), Normandy, Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire, etc., by Agnes, daughter of Gerard Flaitel (or Fleitel). They had six sons, 1. Roger, 2. Gilbert, 3. Walter, 4. Richard [Abbot of Ely], 5. Robert, and 6. Godfrey, and four daughters, 7. Rohese, 8. Alice (wife of Walter Tirel), and 9. Avice. He was among those consulted about the proposed invasion of England in the assembly at Bonneville-sur-Touques in 1066, but there is no direct evidence of his personal participation at Hastings or in the campaign. Nevertheless, he was a significant figure soon afterwards and occurs as a witness of royal charters throughout the reign of King William the Conqueror. He was rewarded with no fewer than 176 lordships, which consisted of two concentrations of lands, one in Kent and Surrey, and the other in Suffolk and Essex. His holdings at Tonbridge, Kent and Clare, Suffolk were both given motte and bailey castles. During the king's absence, he served as Joint Chief Justiciar. He played a leading role in suppressing the rebellion of Roger de Breteuil, Earl of Hereford and Ralph de Gael in 1075 or 1076. In 1078 or 1079 he and his wife, Rohese, sent to Bec Abbey for a colony of monks to replenish the vacant convent at Neotsbury, Huntingdonshire. Sometime before 1086 he granted the monks of Bec his manors of Tooting and Streatham, and land in Horsham (in Walton-on-Thames), all in Surrey. Sometime before 1090 he confirmed to the monks of Bec two thirds of his demesne tithes and one villain in Standon, Hertfordshire; and two thirds of his demesne tithes in Blechingley, Chivington, Woodmansteme, Tolworth, Chipstead, Betchworth, and Walton Leigh, Surrey and houses in Southwark, Surrey and Tonbridge, Kent. RICHARD FITZ GILBERT died about 1090, and was buried at St. Neots, Huntingdonshire. His widow, Rohese, was still living in 1113, when she granted the whole of her manor of Eynesbury, Huntingdonshire to St. Neot's Priory, Huntingdonshire. Children of Richard Fitz Gilbert, by Rohese Giffard: i. GILBERT FITZ RICHARD [see next]. ii. ROBERT FITZ RICHARD, of Little Dunmow, Essex, married MAUD DE SENLIS [see FITZ WALTER 4] iii. ROHESE (or ROSE) FITZ RICHARD, married EUDES THE STEWARD (or EUDES FITZ HUB) of Colchester, Essex [see SAY 2]. iv. AVICE FITZ RICHARD, married RAOUL [I] DE FOUGÈRES, seigneur of Fougères [see FOUGÈRES 2].”

- Father: William DE GLANVILLE, Lord of Bromholm
- Mother: Beatrice DE SAUQUEVILLE
- Birth: ABT 1130, Bromholm, Bacton, Norfolk, England
- 1169 and 1175 he was Viscount or High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk: 1169
- LifeSketch: "Bartholomew succeeded his father in the Barony, and confirmed his father's grants to his Abbey, and added considerably to them. By this deed Bartholomew grants the Monks of Acra, at Baketon, where his father William de Glanville lies buried, the land of Stanard the priest, and the Church of Casewic, and all the appurtenances in Bromholm, the Church of Delham with its appurtenances, the whole of his Lordship of Baketon, and two parts of the tithe of Stringes of Horham and Alreton, of Langho and Brug, belonging to his Lordships ; also of Sneseling, with all the tithe of his mills in Baketon and Wileford; two parts of the tithe of the mill of Honing, and one mill at Munisle in demesne, with the land of Herfrid the priest, and part of his wood in the mill-way to Takesgate, two parts of the tithe of the men or tenants of Roger de Beketon, Geffrey the priest of Honing, Watler Utlage, etc., all the tithe of Richard, son of Ketel, and the whole tithe of the paunage of Baketon and Horham and of the turbage of Swathefield two parts, and at his death he bequeaths to this Priory, Geishorm, and all that he possessed in the fields there, with his villians, to be free and quit from all customs, except the King's Dane-gelt. He also gave them the Church of Paston with its appurtenances, with all his wood and land there, with his land at Guneho, and at Briges, at Aldehithe, and Lawceland, and of Edith de Bridges, 30 acres of land by the sea, a meadow at Brereholm ; the tithe of what was provided for his own house, a marsh (of) at Bromholm, etc., in the honour of God, St. Mary, St. Andrew the Apostle, for the health of his own soul, his father's and all his friends. In the years 1169 and 1175 he was Viscount or High Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk.* At Orford, twenty miles from Ipswich, there was a royal castle in the time of Henry III., who granted a charter to the town, which was previously a borough by prescription; it is now a mere village. Only the keep of the castle remains; it is a polygon of eighteen sides, with walls ninety feet high, and has square towers in its circuit, which overtop the rest of the building ; the architecture is Norman, and it was erected by Glanville; and in the year 1167, when he was residing there, the fishermen took in their nets a wild man, having the human shape complete, with hair on his head and a long and sharp beard and a large amount of shaggy hair on his breasts. The fishermen were not able to keep him long, as he stole away to sea privately, and was never seen afterwards. "In 1171, when King Henry II went to Ireland, Bartholomew de Glanville, Wimar the chaplain, and William Bardul render their account for 320 hogs sent to the army in Ireland £26 16s. 5d., 15 days' pay to 36 masters and 468 equippers £33 13s. Od., making bridges, hurdles, and other ship's apparel £6 5s. 5d., 6 handmills and their appendages 14s. 4d. This account was paid to them by the King's Writ. "A fine was levied between Bartholomew and his wife Isabella and Richard de Berking, tenant of 80 acres of land in the Manor of Emneth, as the dowry of Isabella which she had received from her former husband. He also witnessed his relative Stephen de Sackville's grant to the Priory of Mendham, which had been founded by William de Huntingfield. "His gifts in his Lordships of Bacton, Honing, Paston, and Keswick to Bromholm, are mentioned in the account of those Manors."

According to Jordanes, Berig led his people on three ships from Scandza (Scandinavia) to Gothiscandza (the Vistula Basin).[1] They settled and then attacked the Rugians who lived on the shore and drove them away from their homes, subsequently winning a battle against the Vandals.[2] Arne Søby, a Danish historian, has nonetheless proposed that Cassiodorus, who wrote the original text on which Jordanes's work is based, invented him, with inspiration from the name of Βέρικος (Berikos or Verica).[3] Some archaeological research indicates, however, that the transition of Oksywie culture into Wielbark culture was peaceful and its timing coincides with the appearance of new population of Scandinavian origins in previously uninhabited area ("no man's land") between the Oksywie and Przeworsk culture areas.[4] The 16th-century Swedish archbishop of Uppsala, Johannes Magnus in his history of the Swedes and Goths, was the first to publish a song known as the "Ballad of Eric," about an early Gothic king called Eric, who bears some similarities to Berig. It was once thought to contain authentic folk tradition about the king, but it is now regarded as inaccurate.[5][6] However, Magnus discusses king Berig separately as having united the Swedes and Goths some 400 years after Eric's death. In popular culture, Berig is referenced (as Berik) in the song Three Ships of Berik, Pts. 1 and 2 by Swedish symphonic metal band Therion.

- LifeSketch: "Gauts is said to be the original ancestor of the Goths and He has the alternative appellation of Gapt. Edred makes the interesting observation that "Gaut is identical with ON Gautr, which is in fact one of the many heiti, or bynames of the Norse god Odinn. In ON the name seems to have something to do with being a progenitor. This is very much in keeping with Odinn's general function as the All-Father. Like Gauts, Woden appears at the head of the Anglo-Saxon genealogies of kings." Rudolf Simek makes the additional observation: "The name Gautr is also found in the form of Gapt/Gaut as the mythical ancestor of the Langobards, as Geat in the genealogies of the Anglo-Saxon royal houses and as Gausus in the Langobardian Edictus Rothari. As such, he should be considered as the eponymous ancestor of the Goths who perhaps was identical to Odin in the common Scandinavian homeland of the Germanic tribes, which would explain why he was worshipped as an ancestor in so many places." Regarding the alternative form of the name Gapt he states: "According to Jordanes, the ancestor of the kings of the Amales, who was worshipped as a god. The generally accepted interpretation of the name is that Gapt is a misspelling here for Gaut which is connected with the ON name for Odin>Gautr and Anglo-Saxon Geat." According to an early 14th century saga Bosa saga ok Herraud King Hring of Ostergotland is the son of King Gauti, the son of Odin of Sweden. Some versions of the lineage of the House of Wessex place Geat above Woden but scholars view this as a later interpolation." - http://celto-germanic.blogspot.com/2018/02/gauts-ancestral-god-of-goths.html "Gaut is an early Germanic name, from a Proto-Germanic gautaz, which represents a mythical ancestor or national god in the origin myth of the Geats." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaut "The Amal clan was claimed to have descended from the divine. Jordanes accounts Gothic origins as follows: "Now the first of these heroes, as they themselves relate in their legends, was Gapt, who begat Hulmul. And Hulmul begat Augis; and Augis begat him who was called Amal, from whom the name of the Amali comes. Athal begat Achiulf and Oduulf. Now Achiulf begat Ansila and Ediulf, Vultuulf and Ermanaric." Gapt or Gaut is the Scandinavian god of war. Hulmul or Humli-Hulmul, is considered the divine father of the Danish people.[1] Ermanaric (also referred to as Ermanaricus or Hermanaric), is identified as a Greuthungian king who ruled territories in modern Ukraine. Ermanaric signals the tenth generation, and the first generation to be backed by historical record." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amali_dynasty

- Birth: ABT 1045, Avranches, Manche, Normandy, France
- LifeSketch: Albreda was the niece of William the Conqueror. She married Baldwin de Bryonis, of Miles, Baron of Okehampton, by gift of the Conqueror, built the Castle of Exeter. (See Visitation of Devon p243) Baldwin's first wife was named Albreda, whom Orderic Vitalis refers to as a daughter of the aunt of William the Conqueror, presumably niece of his mother Herleva. In the Domesday Book, his wife appears as Emma. He had three sons who all died childless, and two daughters: 1. Robert FitzBaldwin, Baldwin's heir in Normandy. 2. William FitzBaldwin, inherited Baldwin's English lands. 3. Richard FitzBaldwin. 4. Adeliza FitzBaldwin, heiress to her three brothers, died without issue. 5. (? Matilda) FitzBaldwin, wife successively of William fitzWimund and Ranulf Avenel. William fitzWimund is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086 as holding land at Dolton, Devon in North Tawton Hundred, from his father-in-law Baldwin. 6. Baldwin also had an illegitimate child, Wiger, a monk at Bec. Death and succession Baldwin was living in 1086. He had died by 1091 according to Orderic. Following the deaths of his three sons without heirs, his daughter Adeliza was his ultimate sole heiress. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldwin_FitzGilbert
