He was the son of Fulk V d'Anjou, 9th Comte d'Anjou and Melesende of Jerusalem, Queen of Jerusalem.2 He married, firstly, Agnes of Courtenay, daughter of Joscelin II de Courtenay, Count of Edessa and Beatrice (?), in 1157.3 He and Agnes of Courtenay were divorced in 1162 on the grounds of consanguinity.3 He married, secondly, Mary Comnene, daughter of Sebastokrator Isaac Comnenos, on 29 August 1167. He died on 11 July 1174. He succeeded as the King Almaric I of Jerusalem in 1163.1 Children of Almaric I, King of Jerusalem and Agnes of Courtenay Sybil d'Anjou, Queen of Jerusalem+2 d. c 1190 Baldwin IV, King of Jerusalem2 b. c 1161, d. 16 Mar 1185 Child of Almaric I, King of Jerusalem and Mary Comnene Isabella d'Anjou, Queen of Jerusalem+1 b. c 1172, d. b May 1206 Citations [S8] BP1999 volume 1, page 227. [S37] Amalric (Latin: Amalricus; French: Amaury; 1136 – 11 July 1174) was King of Jerusalem from 1163, and Count of Jaffa and Ascalon before his accession. He was the second son of Melisende and Fulk of Jerusalem, and succeeded his older brother Baldwin III. During his reign, Jerusalem became more closely allied with the Byzantine Empire, and the two states launched an unsuccessful invasion of Egypt. Meanwhile, the Muslim territories surrounding Jerusalem began to be united under Nur ad-Din and later Saladin. He was the father of three future rulers of Jerusalem, Sibylla, Baldwin IV, and Isabella I. Older scholarship mistook the two names Amalric and Aimery as variant spellings of the same name, so these historians erroneously added numbers, making Amalric to be Amalric I (1163–74) and King Aimery (1197–1205) to be "Amalric II". Now scholars recognize that the two names were not the same and no longer add the number for either king. Confusion between the two names was common even among contemporaries.[1]

He took part in his father's campaign in France 1359-60. He was created Earl of Cambridge 13 Nov 1362. In 1364 he was contracted to marry Marguerite of Flanders, widow of Philip, Duke of Burgundy, and daughter of Louis, Count of Flanders and Rethel. The Pope refused the necessary dispensation for the marriage, and, in 1367, relieved the couple of their contract. Edmund distinguished himself under the Black Prince at the Siege and sack of Limoges in 1370. He married (1st) at Roquefort near Bordeaux in Sep 1371 (a 2nd time at Hertford Castle about 1 Mar 1372) Isabel of Castile-Leon. They had two sons, Edward, K.G. [2nd Duke of York, 2nd Earl of Cambridge], and Richard, Knt. [Earl of Cambridge], and one daughter, Constance. In 1374, as the King's Lieutenant, he captured St. Mathieu and St. Pol de Leon and laid siege to St. Brieue in 1375. In 1377 he was appointed Regent of the Tealm during the minority of his nephew, King Richard II. The same year he bore the Sceptre with the Dove at the Coronation of King Richard II. He was created Duke of York 9 Aug 1385. In 1387 he was granted the manor of Hitchin, Hertfordshire by the king, and in 1388 he likewise was granted the manor of Wendover, Buckinghamshire in fee-tail male. In 1391 he was appointed Plenipotentiary to Amiens to negotiate terms of peace with France. He married (2nd) before 4 Nov 1393 Joan Holand. They had no issue. He was three times Regent, between 1394 and 1399, during the king's absence from England, but he preferred hunting and hawking to state affairs. He died at King's Langley, Hertfordshire 1 Aug 1402, and was buried there in the church of Friars Preachers. He left a will dated 25 Nov 1400, proved 6 Oct 1402. ========== 'Plantagenet Ancestry', by Douglas Richardson ========== 'Magna Carta Ancestry', by Douglas Richardson Pg 280, 887, 914 K.G., 1st Duke of York ========== Foundation for Medieval Genealogy EDMUND "of Langley", son of EDWARD III King of England & his wife Philippa de Hainaut (Abbot’s Langley, Hertfordshire 5 Jun 1341-King’s Langley, Hertfordshire 1 Aug 1402, bur King’s Langley, Church of the Dominican Friars). The Chronicon Angliæ records that “Philippa regina Angliæ” gave birth 5 Jun “apud Langley juxta Sanctum Albanum” to “filium...Edmundus”, dated to 1341 from the context[1155]. Created Earl of Cambridge 13 Nov 1362. Her served in the campaign in Brittany 1369, at the siege of Limoges Sep 1370. Created Duke of York 6 Aug 1385. Regent of England 29 Sep 1394-May 1395, 6 Aug 1395, and 27 Sep-Nov 1396, during the King's absences, and also in 1399 when his nephew Henry Duke of Lancaster landed, with whom he made peace. The will of "Edmund Duke of York, Earl of Cambridge and Lord of Tyndale", dated 25 Nov 1400, chose burial “at Langley near to Isabel late my wife”, appointed “my...son of Rutland” among his executors[1156]. ========== Probably from an early entry in Wikipedia - date uncertain Like so many medieval princes, Edmund gained his identifying nickname from his birthplace: King's Langley in Hertfordshire. On 5 Jun 1341 Edmund was baptized in Langley by Michael, Abbot of St. Albans, who was also his godfather with the Earls of Surrey and Arundel. He remained in his mother's guardianship until Sep 1354. In 1359-60 he participated in his father's French campaign and was a witness to the Treaty of Bretigny on 24 Oct 1360. He was nominated a Knight of the Garter in 1361 and created Earl of Cambridge on 13 Nov 1362. Over the course of the next 10 years he took part with his brothers in various campaigns in France. He returned to England in 1371. After being married, Edmund took part in further campaigns in France and served as Constable of Dover Castle and Warden of the Cinque Ports from June 1376 to February 1381. On 25 May 1377 he and his wife were granted Potheringay Castle in Northamptonshire and Anstey Castle in Hertfordshire. He was appointed chief commissioner for the defense of the Kentish coast on 30 Jun 1377, and at the coronation of his nephew Richard II on 16 July that year, he bore the sceptre with the dove. He was a chief commissioner to treat with the Bohemian envoys concerning the king's marriage in 1381 and commanded the English troops sent to Portugal against the Spaniards later in the same year, but met with little success. In 1385 he accompanied the king to Scotland and on August 6 was created Duke of York, being invested at Parliament at Westminster on 20 October. He received a grant of 1000 pounds a year for the support of the dukedom. He was the founder of the House of York, but it was through the marriage of his younger son, Richard, that the Yorkist faction in the Wars of the Roses made its claim on the throne. His first wife, Isabella, was the daughter of Pedro "the Cruel" of Castile, and they had two sons, Edward and Richard, Earl of Cambridge, as well as a daughter, Constance (ancestor of queen Anne Neville). Although marriages within the royal family and between royal families are the rule, it is interesting to note Edmund's marital ties to his older brother, John of Gaunt. Edmund's first wife was the sister of John of Gaunt's wife, and Edmund's second wife was the sister of John of Gaunt's daughter-in-law. After Isabella's death in 1392, Edmund married Joan de Holland, his second cousin and a granddaughter of Joan of Kent. They had no children. In 1399 Edmund acted as regent while the king was in Ireland and was prepared to oppose the landing of his nephew Henry of Bolingbroke (later Henry IV), but he made peace with the usurper on 27 July and the new king appointed him a Privy Councillor and made him master of the royal mews and falcons with a grant of the lordship of the Isle of Axholme, Lincolnshire, on 10 Oct 1399. Edmund of Langley died in his birthplace, and was buried there with his first wife, in the church of the mendicant friars. His dukedom passed to his eldest son, Edward.

- He has been called the greatest ruler of the Kingdom of Pontus.: (Date and Place unknown)
- LifeSketch: Mithridates VI has been called the greatest ruler of the Kingdom of Pontus. He was a prince of Persian and Greek ancestry who claimed descent from Cyrus the Great, the family of Darius the Great, the Regent Antipater, the generals of Alexander the Great as well as the later kings Antigonus I Monophthalmus and Seleucus I Nicator. He was the first son of Laodice VI and Prince Mithridates V, himself a son of the former Pontic monarchs Pharnaces I of Pontus and his wife-cousin Nysa. Mithradates VI's mother Laodice VI was a Seleucid princess and daughter of the Seleucid monarchs Antiochus IV Epiphanes and Antiochus IV's wife-sister Laodice IV. His father was assassinated about 120 BC in Sinope, poisoned by unknown persons at a lavish banquet. His father left the kingdom to the joint rule of Mithridates IV, his mother Laodice VI, and his younger brother Mithridates Chrestus. Neither he nor his younger brother were of age, and their mother retained all power as regent for the time being. Her regency over Pontus was from 120 BC to 116 BC (or perhaps up to 113 BC) and she favored his brother Mithridates Chrestus over him. During her regency, he escaped from her plots against him, and went into hiding. Between 116 BC and 113 BC, he emerged from hiding and returned to Pontus, where he was hailed as king. By this time he had grown to become a man of considerable stature and physical strength, combining extraordinary energy and determination with a considerable talent for politics, organization and strategy. He removed his mother and brother from the throne, imprisoning both, and became the sole ruler of Pontus. -- Wikiwand: Mithridates VI of Pontus

Mithridates VII OF PONTUS
\-Hypsicratea spouse of Mithridates of PONTUS VI
- Father: Mithridates II of PONTUS
- Mother: Laodice II of Syria SELEUCID
- Birth: ABT 225 BC, Pontus,Anatolia,Syria
- Also known as: König Mithridates IV von Pontos
- LifeSketch: Pharnaces I (Greek: Φαρνάκης; lived 2nd century BC), fifth king of Pontus and was of Persian and Greek Macedonian ancestry. He was the son of King Mithridates III of Pontus and his wife Laodice, whom he succeeded on the throne.[1] Pharnaces had two siblings: a brother called Mithridates IV of Pontus and a sister called Laodice who succeeded as Pontian monarchs on the throne.[2] He was born and raised in the Kingdom of Pontus. Life[edit] The date of his accession cannot be fixed with certainty; but it is certain, at least, that he was on the throne before 183 BC, in which year he succeeded in reducing the important city of Sinope, which had been long an object of ambition to the Kings of Pontus. The Rhodians sent an embassy to Rome to complain of this aggression, but without effect.[3] About the same time Pharnaces became involved in disputes with his neighbour, King of Pergamon, Eumenes II, which led to repeated embassies from both monarchs to Rome, as well as to partial hostilities. But in the spring of 181 BC, without waiting for the return of his ambassadors, Pharnaces suddenly attacked both Eumenes II and King Ariarathes IV of Cappadocia and invaded Galatia with a large force. Bronze shield in the name of King Pharnakes, Getty Villa (80.AC.60) Eumenes II opposed him at the head of an army: but hostilities were soon suspended by the arrival of the Roman Republic deputies, appointed by the Roman Senate to inquire into the matters in dispute. Negotiations were accordingly opened at Pergamon but led to no result, the demands of Pharnaces being rejected by the Romans as unreasonable; and the war was in consequence renewed. It continued, apparently with various interruptions, until the summer of 179 BC, when Pharnaces, finding himself unable to cope with the combined forces of Eumenes II and Ariarathes IV, was compelled to purchase peace by the cession of all his conquests in Galatia and Paphlagonia, with the exception of Sinope.[4] How long he continued to reign after this we know not; but it appears, from an incidental notice, that he was still on the throne in 170 BC, while he was certainly dead in 154 BC, when his brother Mithridates IV of Pontus is mentioned as King.[5] The Greek historian Polybius accuses Pharnaces of having an arrogant and violent character, siding with the opinion of Eumenes II and the Romans. Pharnaces married a Greek Seleucid Princess called Nysa, who was the child of princess Laodice IV and crown prince Antiochus.[6] Nysa and Pharnaces were related as the parents of Nysa were first cousins with Pharnaces. Pharnaces married Nysa either in 172 BC or 171 BC, through the diplomatic work of the Seleucid King Demetrius I Soter.[7] Honorific statues and inscriptions have survived that were dedicated to Pharnaces and Nysa. Pharnaces set about to establish good relations with the citizens of Athens and the Greek island of Delos. Pharnaces made a benefaction to the people of Athens. The exact nature of the benefaction is unknown, perhaps Pharnaces may have made some kind of voluntary donation to Athens, perhaps soon after 183 BC.[8] A lengthy honorific inscription from the Athenians on Delos honors Pharnaces and Nysa. Pharnaces and Nysa received a crown of gold from them and bronze statues of themselves were set up on Delos. Their lengthy Athenian honorific inscription, is dated in the Archonship of the Athenian Tychandrus or Tychander which is now generally accepted as 160 BC or 159 BC.[9] Nysa bore Pharnaces two children: a son called Mithridates V of Pontus and a daughter called Nysa of Cappadocia, who is also known as Laodice.[10] Nysa died at an unknown date in the 2nd century BC, she is believed to have died during childbirth, when she was giving birth to one of her children

- Birth: ABT 495
- LifeSketch: Childebert I (c. 496 – 13 December 558) was a Frankish King of the Merovingian dynasty, as third of the four sons of Clovis I who shared the kingdom of the Franks upon their father's death in 511. He was one of the sons of Saint Clotilda, born at Reims. He reigned as King of Paris from 511 to 558 and Orléans from 524 to 558. In the partition of the realm, Childebert received as his share the town of Paris, the country to the north as far as the river Somme, to the west as far as the English Channel, and the Armorican peninsula (modern Brittany). His brothers ruled in different lands: Theuderic I in Metz, Chlodomer in Orléans, and Chlothar I in Soissons. In 523, Childebert participated with his brothers in a war against Godomar of Burgundy. Chlodomer died in the Battle of Vézeronce (524). Thereafter, concerned that the three sons of Chlodomer would inherit the kingdom of Orléans, Chlothar conspired with Childebert to oust them. They sent a representative to their mother, Clotilde. The representative presented a pair of scissors and a sword, offering her the choice to shear the three young boys, thereby depriving them of the long hair considered a symbol of royal power, or to have them killed. She famously replied, "It is better for me to see them dead rather than shorn, if they are not raised to the kingship".[1] After the murder of Chlodomer's two elder children—the third, Clodoald, escaping to a monastic life—Childebert annexed the cities of Chartres and Orléans. He took part in later various expeditions against the kingdom of Burgundy. He besieged Autun in 532 and, in 534, having conquered the kingdom along with his brother Chlothar and Theuderic's son Theudebert I, received as his share of the spoils of that kingdom the towns of Mâcon, Geneva, and Lyons. When Witiges, the king of the Ostrogoths, ceded Provence to the Franks in 535, the possession of Arles and Marseilles was guaranteed to Childebert by his brothers. The annexation of that province was completed, with Clotaire's help, in the winter of 536–537. In 531, he received pleas from his sister Chrotilda, wife of King Amalaric of the Visigoths. The Arian king of Hispania, Chrotilda claimed, was grossly mistreating her, a Catholic. Childebert went down with an army and defeated the Gothic king. Amalaric retreated to Barcelona, where he was assassinated. Chrotilda died on her return journey to Paris of unknown causes. Childebert made other expeditions against the Visigoths. In 542, he took possession of Pamplona with the help of his brother Clotaire and besieged Zaragoza, but was forced to retreat. From this expedition he brought back to Paris a precious relic, the tunic of Saint Vincent, in honour of which he built at the gates of Paris the famous monastery of Sainte-Croix-et-Saint-Vincent, known later as St-Germain-des-Prés. He died on 13 December 558, and was buried in the abbey he had founded, where his tomb has been discovered.[2] St-Germain-des-Prés became the royal necropolis for the Neustrian kings until 675.[3] He left no sons, only two daughters, Chrodoberge and Chrodesinde, by his wife Ultragotha. Childebert was an acquisitive monarch. He expanded his domains in more foreign wars than any of his brothers, fighting in Burgundy (more than once), Spain (more than once), Provence, and elsewhere in Gaul. Gregory of Tours, a contemporary Neustrian, cites Childebert as saying: "Velim unquam Arvernam Lemanem quae tantae jocunditatis gratia refulgere dicitur, oculis cernere" ("Would that I could set eyes on the Auvergne Limagne, which is spoken of so highly"). Childbert was also one of the more religious of the sons of Clovis, cooperating with his brothers, rescuing his sister, and constructing the famous monastery of Saint Vincent to house his relics.
